  • Publication number: 20120089358
Abstract: An apparatus, consisting of a rolling element, which is resting on a surface, and a force-sensing device, which is coupled to the surface. The force-sensing device is configured to make a first measurement indicative of a force exerted in a direction perpendicular to the surface. The force is exerted by a force-sensing probe pressing against the rolling element so as to hold the rolling element stationary. The apparatus further includes a calibration processor, which is configured to collect the first measurement from the sensing device, to collect a second measurement indicative of the force from the force-sensing probe, and to calibrate the force-sensing probe based on the first and second measurements.

  • Publication number: 20100119938
Abstract: The present invention is of a battery separator comprising a reaction product of a polymer and a polyvalent metal. The present invention further provides a method of forming a battery separator comprising applying a polymer such as an acrylic polymer such that it reacts with a polyvalent metal in a battery component layer to form a separator. In some embodiments applying is by a printing technique. Further, the present invention is of a battery including a separator of the present invention and a method of making same.

  • Patent number: 7418350
Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating a seismic velocity field from seismic data including time-amplitude representations associated with source-receiver locations spaced apart by an offset distance and having a midpoint therebetween, the seismic data being arranged into common midpoint (CMP) gathers associated with respective CMP locations. A control plane having an edge intersecting a plurality of the CMP locations is defined, an initial velocity field for the control plane is produced, the initial velocity field including a plurality of time-velocity values for each of the CMP locations; and an optimized velocity field for the control plane is produced by adjusting the time-velocity values for each of the CMP locations in response to trends, relative to offset distance, in time values, associated with common seismic events, until said optimized velocity field satisfies a condition.
