  • Patent number: 5771541
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for cleaning fibers by means of revolving rollers, the fiber mass being divided, expanded, and recombined while being successively transferred over at least three rollers, the outer surface of at least one of the rollers revolving in close proximity to, but spaced apart from, the other rollers, to form a substantially triangular enclosure therebetween, the apparatus including a first roller, driven at peripheral speed faster than the remaining rollers, arranged as a moving source of fiber supply at the beginning of the process and to receive and card fibers from the third of the rollers; a second, condenser roller, driven at a peripheral speed slower than the first roller, arranged to receive at least a part of the fiber mass from the first roller and to transport the fibers to the third roller; a third, opening roller, driven at a peripheral speed relatively slower than the first roller, arranged to receive fibers from the condenser roller and to transport the fibers back

  • Patent number: 5655262
Abstract: The invention provides apparatus for cleaning fibers by a combination of revolving rollers, including a first roller arranged to hold and collect fibers from a supply source, a second roller arranged to take off fibers from said first roller, a third roller driven faster than either of the first or second rollers and arranged to receive, expand, card and eject fibers from the second roller. At least one of the first or second rollers is provided, over the entire surface thereof, with a plurality of pointed, toothlike projections, a first quantity of the projections pointing in the direction of rotation of the roller and a second quantity of the projections pointing in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the roller. A fiber mass to be cleaned is divided, expanded and recombined while being successively transferred over the three rollers.

  • Patent number: 5365640
Abstract: An apparatus for sorting fibers and separating them into fractions with desirable and undesirable properties comprises a housing provided with a first chamber; a device for introducing fibers to be sorted into the first chamber; a rotary element revolvably supported in the first chamber and provided with a mechanism for receiving the fibers and applying a fast rotary movement thereto; a multiplicity of material-receiving channels leading from the first chamber, a first one of which is provided with a first window adjacent to the rotary element for the reception of trash of relatively greater mass than the remaining material, a second one of which is provided with a second window for the reception of nep and undesirable fibers of intermediate mass and one of which is provided with a third window adjacent to the rotary element for the reception of desired fibers; the channels being in fluid communication with an air pressure source; wherein the fast rotary movement results in a centrifugal force, which in combi

  • Patent number: 5153968
Abstract: The invention provides a process for reducing the adhesiveness of sticky plets on the surface of a cotton fiber comprising decoalescing the droplets and dispersing the contents thereof along the surface of the fiber wherein the dispersion is effected by passing the fiber between a pair of rotary rollers, the rollers being pressed against each other and being revolved at different relative speeds.
