  • Publication number: 20010054496
Abstract: A heat exchanger such as a condenser for use in an automobile air-conditioning system is composed of a pair of header tanks, plural tubes connecting both header tanks, and fins made of a thin aluminum plate disposed between the tubes. Those components are all connected to one another by brazing to form a unitary body of the heat exchanger. A solder material for bonding the tubes and the header tanks is attached onto the inner surface of both header tanks to prevent the solder material from dispersing into the thin fins in the brazing process. Thus, the thin aluminum fins are protected against erosion due to the solder dispersed therein.

  • Patent number: 6234381
Abstract: The present invention is a water-based binder used when manufacturing aluminum brazed products such as engine radiators, condensers for car air conditioners, and the like. The water-based binder is obtained by saponifying an ester methacrylate polymer that has an acid value and a glass transition temperature within specified ranges. In the presence of an alcohol that is water soluble and volatile and has a flash point higher than a specified temperature, the brazing composition, in which this binder and flux and the like are mixed, does not have the risk of catching on fire or exploding and also has excellent wettability and can be uniformly coated onto an aluminum material.

  • Patent number: 5257731
Abstract: A vacuum pump is first driven to start evacuation from the interior of a furnace. At the time when the furnace pressure reaches 8.times.10.sup.-5 Torr, a heater is driven to start elevating the furnace temperature. Then, at the time when the furnace temperature reaches 565.degree. C. that corresponds to the solidus line temperature for a brazing filler metal of Al - 10% Si alloy containing Mg of 0.6 wt. %, a motor is driven to close a shutter, thereby vacuum brazing aluminum with evacuation control under a high-vacuum level. By controlling the evacuation after reaching a high-vacuum level, the amount of water vapor in the furnace becomes sufficiently small and Mg vapor is highly densified, which permits brazing of satisfactory quality even with a brazing filler metal containing Mg of 1.2 wt. % or less, in combination with use of such a brazing filler metal as having the Mg.sub.2 Si particle size fined to be 5 .mu.m as a typical value through soaking and the thickness of a surface oxide film thinned to be 80 .
