  • Patent number: 8493927
Abstract: In a control apparatus which transmits/receives data from a central processing unit via a serial transfer channel to a communication control unit, and groups/distributes data of input/output units from the communication control unit via a parallel transfer channel, the control apparatus initiates a diagnosing unit of the parallel transfer channel in response to an instruction issued from the central processing unit, and diagnosis the input/output units subsequent to the diagnosis of the transmission channel. Data input/output timing of the input/output unit is also instructed from the central processing unit, so that the central processing unit can suppress lowering of response speeds caused by the diagnoses, and can maintain the periodicity of the data input/output.

  • Patent number: 6384964
Abstract: The present invention effectively compensates gain wavelength dependency of optical amplifiers by a simple method. That is, a value smaller than the minimum value of gain, in the range of usage wavelengths, of gain wavelength dependency data of the optical amplifiers is predetermined as a reference gain value. A loss wavelength characteristic which counterbalances the gain greater than the reference gain value is provided as an ideal loss wavelength characteristic which completely compensates the gain wavelength dependency.

  • Patent number: 6332053
Abstract: The present invention discloses an optical fiber capable of providing optical connection to a semiconductor laser diode (LD) as a light emitting element at high optical coupling efficiency. An optical fiber (5) for optical coupling efficiency improvement is-coupled, by a fusion joint technique, to an end portion of an optical fiber (2) which is optically connected to a semiconductor LD (3). The optical fiber (5) for optical coupling efficiency improvement has a circular mode field w and the semiconductor LD (3) has an elliptical mode field, wherein the diameter W1 of the fiber (5) is nearly identical to that of the latter field of the semiconductor LD (3) extending in the ellipse's major axis direction. Further, an end portion of the optical fiber 5 for optical coupling efficiency improvement on the side of the semiconductor LD (3) is formed into an approximately wedge-like shape and its endmost portion is formed into a lens.

  • Patent number: 5960135
Abstract: The invention relates to an optical integrated circuit for bidirectional communications which is able to achieve a downsizing and high integration with the production cost thereof decreased. An optical waveguide circuit is formed on a substrate and a photo diode (PD) is connected to the outgoing end side thereof. The optical waveguide circuit has a circuit of an optical wavelength division multiplexer which causes communication signal light (.lambda.1) inputted from a bidirectional light input/output port to be transmitted through a communication light selective transmission filter and to be outputted from a communication light output port and causes non-communication light (.lambda.2) to be reflected by the communication light selective transmission filter and to outgo through a non-communication light output port. A piezoelectric element is provided on the upper part at the outgoing side of the communication light output port.

  • Patent number: 5379717
Abstract: A method of growing a single semiconductor crystal with a flat top. In order to grow a single flat top crystal, the InP crystal is pulled up after the temperature drop of the melt has almost stopped, at a point in time when a meniscus at the interface of solid-liquid can be seen over the whole circumference of the surface of the melt. This prevents a facet from appearing at the shoulder portion of the crystal, thus reducing the generation of twin crystals and drastically improves retension of single crystal formation.
