  • Patent number: 5375919
Abstract: An anti-skid control method for an anti-skid control device comprising two pressure medium lines installed between the master cylinder and the return pathway of the pressure medium with an inlet valve, selector valve, and discharge valve arranged in series in each of the two pressure medium lines, a front wheel brake being connected between the inlet valve and the selector valve of each pressure medium line and a diagonally opposite rear wheel brake being connected between the same selector valve and the discharge valve of that pressure medium line, and a control circuit which controls the front and rear wheel brake pressures through the pressure medium lines. The rotational speeds of each front and rear wheel are determined. The state of traction of each front and rear wheel is judged by the control circuit. The appropriate inlet valve, selector valve, discharge valve and combination thereof are activated to control locking and slippage of each front and rear wheel.

  • Patent number: 4655188
Abstract: In controlling the air-fuel ratio in an air-fuel mixture in an internal combustion engine, a pulse duty signal Tp corresponding to the basic fuel injection quantity is operated at least from the intake air flow quantity Q and the rotation speed N of the engine, a signal of a fuel injection quantity Ti corrected by adding an appropriate correction value to said Tp is applied to a pulse-controlled fuel injection apparatus. Feedback control is carried out so that the actually detected air-fuel ratio is made to follow the aimed air-fuel ratio, and the learning correction coefficient .alpha.o is operated by learning so that the correction coefficient for this feedback control is as small as possible and the operated value is given as a correction value to Tp. Since the reliability of .alpha.o is low in a driving state area where learning is not advanced, .alpha.o of the area where learning is not advanced is estimated from .alpha.

  • Patent number: 4517945
Abstract: A structure for use in an internal combustion engine including a cooling passage between an engine block outer wall and cylinder walls each defining therein a cylinder. The engine block outer wall has a thickened portion with connection arms extending to the respective cylinder walls to provide a rigid connection between the cylinder wall and the position at which a knock sensor is attached. The rigid connection is effective to transmit vibrations due to internal combustion in the cylinders to the knock sensor with minimized attenuation and minimized distortion.

  • Patent number: 4420967
Abstract: A comparator compares, either before or after being rectified, a signal obtained from the vibration signal representing the vibrations of a spark ignition internal combustion engine and which has passed through a signal transmitting circuit, with a reference level signal from a reference level signal forming circuit to produce a knock signal representing the occurrence of knocking when the former signal is greater in magnitude than the latter. The reference level signal forming circuit rectifies and smooths the vibration signal to produce a rectified smoothed signal, and includes a first amplifying circuit which amplifies the rectified smoothed signal to produce the reference level signal, mentioned above.

  • Patent number: 4401073
Abstract: A feedback control system for controlling the rotational speed in idling operation of an internal combustion engine mounted on a vehicle by altering an intake air amount is combined with means for detecting a predetermined engine operating condition where the rotational speed of the engine is decreased or restrained by the vehicle speed and means for limiting a control signal manipulating an intake air amount under a predetermined upper limit in the case where the predetermined engine operating condition is detected so that the control system is prevented from excessively increasing an intake air amount. Preferably the operation of the limiting means as well as the operation of the feedback control is performed by a programmed microcomputer.

  • Patent number: 4382429
Abstract: A spark timing adjusting circuit receives a basic spark timing signal from a spark timing determining circuit and regulates the spark timing according to a knocking signal from a knocking detector. A speed changing circuit serves to increase the rate of advance of the spark timing after the spark timing has been retarded when the operational state of the engine is in a first predetermined range corresponding to a first speed range in which all the engine speeds are lower than a first predetermined value. The speed changing circuit may include a circuit which decreases the rate of retard of the spark timing when the operational state of the engine is in a second predetermined range corresponding to a second speed range in which all the engine speeds are higher than a second predetermined value which is higher than the first predetermined value, thereby avoiding rapid retardation of the spark timing.

  • Patent number: 4359992
Abstract: The calculation of an adjustment value, which is determined by the concentration of oxygen in the exhaust gas, the opening of a throttle valve provided in an intake air passage to the engine, the engine temperature, etc., is started every time a predetermined number of repeatedly produced start signals, the repetition rate of which corresponds to the rotational speed of the crankshaft, occur. A basic value for fuel supply, T.sub.p =k Q/N, is calculated from the engine operating parameters; the amount of flow of intake air into the engine, Q the rotational speed of the crankshaft, N, and a constant k, and adjusted according to the adjustment value to obtain a control output signal, in the vicinity of the next start signal after said predetermined number.

  • Patent number: 4359029
Abstract: Disclosed is an air/fuel control system for an internal combustion engine which selectively carries out open loop control and feedback control in which the air/fuel ratio is controlled based on the sensed concentration of an exhaust gas component. The system has a means for generating a variable reference signal corresponding to an exhaust gas sensor output and a means for measuring a period after the air-fuel mixture becomes rich and for generating a signal for switching control operation from feedback control to open loop control. The latter means clears the measured period responsive to interrupting feedback control after the expiration of a given period. This effectively prevents control operation from switching too frequently between feedback control and open loop control.

  • Patent number: 4355615
Abstract: Disclosed herewith an air/fuel ratio control device for and internal combustion engine which is capable of carrying out either feedback control or open loop control. In feedback control, a signal indicating the concentration of exhaust gas components is generated and fed to a fuel supply control device. In open loop control, a fuel injection rate is determined corresponding to intake air flow rate. For switching between feedback control and open loop control, the air/fuel ratio control device is provided with a means for detecting an abnormal condition of signal, and a means operative in response to the abnormal signal to interrupt feedback control. The air/fuel ratio control device is further provided with a means for detecting stopping of the abnormal signal and for returning control operation to feedback control.

  • Patent number: 4314537
Abstract: A system for controlling in a feedback control mode the air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture to be supplied to an internal combustion engine in response to the deviation from a reference value, of an output of an exhaust sensor for sensing the concentration of a component of engine exhaust gas. The reference value is varied even during stopping of the feedback control due to an lowered engine temperature, thereby preventing an erroneous control. Additionally, the reference value and the value of a current flow to the exhaust sensor are varied immediately when the feedback control is stopped due to lowering in the engine temperature, thereby quickening the initiation of the feedback control.
