Patent number: 9156279Abstract: A first printer 60 has a connection unit that receives print data input from a POS terminal 10, and outputs the print data to and receives the result of printing the output print data from a second printer 20, and a first printer print unit 71 that prints the received print data or data based on the received print data. When the result of printing the print data input to the connection unit is an error, the first printer 60 uses the first printer print unit 71 to print the print data, and outputs the result of printing by the first printer print unit 71 from the connection unit.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2013Date of Patent: October 13, 2015Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Shoji Shima, Katsutoshi Terashima, Tadashi Furuhata, Yoshihiro Ueno, Akio Takamoto

Patent number: 9129206Abstract: A printer can be connected to a computer or other host device without being limited by the type of data processed by the printer. A POS system 1 has a POS terminal 10 connected to a first printer 60 that has a print unit 71. The print data acquisition unit 66 of the first printer 60 acquires data output by the POS terminal 10. A conversion unit 67 applies at least one of a process of converting graphic data to text data, and a process of converting text data to graphic data, to the data acquired by the data acquisition unit 66, and the conversion unit 67 outputs the resulting converted data.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2013Date of Patent: September 8, 2015Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Tadashi Furuhata, Shoji Shima, Katsutoshi Terashima, Yoshihiro Ueno

Patent number: 8836738Abstract: A drive control method for a media processing device prevents increasing the media production time even when a printhead cleaning process is performed before the printing process. When a media production command is input, the preprocessing time required until the printing process starts is calculated based on the media production command. If the total of the preprocessing time plus the time passed since the last cleaning process is greater than or equal to a specified time, the cleaning process is started. If the elapsed time will reach the specified time after the media production command is output and before the printing process starts, the cleaning process runs parallel to the write process. Increasing the media production time by the time required for the cleaning process is thus prevented.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2011Date of Patent: September 16, 2014Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Yasufumi Yokoyama, Shoji Shima, Koji Hashimoto

Publication number: 20120007932Abstract: A drive control method for a media processing device prevents increasing the media production time even when a printhead cleaning process is performed before the printing process. When a media production command is input, the preprocessing time required until the printing process starts is calculated based on the media production command (steps ST11, ST12). If the total of the preprocessing time plus the time passed since the last cleaning process is greater than or equal to a specified time (step ST13), the cleaning process is started (step ST16). If the elapsed time will reach the specified time after the media production command is output and before the printing process starts, the cleaning process (step ST16) runs parallel to the write process (step ST18). Increasing the media production time by the time required for the cleaning process (step ST16) is thus prevented.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 6, 2011Publication date: January 12, 2012Applicant: SEIKO EPSON CORPORATIONInventors: Yasufumi Yokoyama, Shoji Shima, Koji Hashimoto
