  • Patent number: 4610852
Abstract: Uranium is stably stripped from an organic solvent containing a uranium-laden, amine-based extracting agent into an aqueous ammonium sulfate solution with a very high stripping efficiency in an emulsion-formable high pH range by mixing the organic solvent, the aqueous ammonium sulfate solution and an alkali as a pH-controlling agent, thereby forming a mixture having a pH of 4.5 to 6.0 and a temperature of 15.degree. to 50.degree. C., preferably 25.degree. to 40.degree. C., and subjecting the resulting mixture to an action of centrifugal force of 850 G or higher, thereby separating it into an organic solvent freed from the uranium and an aqueous ammonium sulfate solution containing the uranium.

  • Patent number: 4367202
Abstract: A centrifugal counter-flow liquid container contactor in which a light liquid and a heavy liquid are introduced into a rotary body fixed to a rotary shaft from the outer peripheral portion and the inner peripheral portion of the rotary body, respectively, so that the light liquid and heavy liquid make counter-flow contact with each other and, after the contact, the light liquid and heavy liquid are discharged from the inner peripheral portion and outer peripheral portion of the rotary body. Disc-shaped partition plates are disposed at both sides of radially extending pipes within the rotary body such as a light liquid introduction pipe, heavy liquid discharging pipe and so forth inserted into the rotary body, so as to separate these radial pipes from the region where the light and heavy liquids are mixed with each other.

  • Patent number: 4348288
Abstract: Fuel oil containing sodium salt, potassium salt and solid matters is purified by separating the fuel oil into fuel oil and sludges by a centrifugal separating means, thereby removing the sludges from the fuel oil, and mixing the fuel oil freed from the sludges with water, and separating the resulting liquid mixture into fuel oil and water. Removal of the salts and the solid matters from the fuel oil can be attained at the same time very effectively with a reduced frequency of cleaning a filter or by omitting the use of the filter, with or without using an emulsion breaker.

  • Patent number: 4339330
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for the desalting of fuel oil by mixing the fuel oil and clean water, thereby separating and eliminating sodium salts and potassium salts contained in the fuel oil, and the method comprises separating a heavy portion including salt-containing water from the fuel oil which is a light portion, this heavy portion separated from the fuel oil being separated into water and a residue by an evaporator, the water being reused as a washing water and the residue being burnt to use the generated heat as a heat source for the evaporator, whereby the residue is decreased in volume and solidified to be made easy in the handling.

  • Patent number: 4326666
Abstract: A centrifugal type counterflow contact apparatus having a rotary body or drum intergrally mounted on a rotary shaft, and a plurality of ring members disposed within the rotary body such that circumferential slits are defined between the adjacent ring members in the axial direction of the rotary drum. The ring members have a cross sectional configuration inclined with respect to the axis of the rotary body. A light liquid is introduced into the periphery of the rotary body while a heavy liquid is introduced in the center portion of the rotary body. The heavy and light liquids flow countercurrently through the slits between the ring members under the centrifugal force produced by the rotation of the rotary body, whereby extractability can be improved and accumulation of solids entrained in the feed can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 4272011
Abstract: A centrifugal counterflow type contactor wherein the interior space of a drum carried by a rotating shaft has a predetermined axial width or the interior space of the drum is divided by at least one baffle plate mounted on the rotating shaft into at least two chambers each having a predetermined width; and a light liquid is introduced into said interior space or each chamber at positions adjacent to the radially outward end thereof while a heavy liquid is introduced into said interior space or each chamber at positions adjacent to the radially inward end thereof so that rapid rotation of the drum causes the radial counterflow contact between the light and heavy liquids. The extraction efficiency is equal to or higher than that of a corresponding prior art centrifugal contactor, and the solids in the liquids may be prevented from being accumulated in the counterflow region.

  • Patent number: 4225079
Abstract: In a liquid-liquid centrifugal extractor wherein a liquid of greater specific gravity is introduced into an inner peripheral portion inside a rotor, while a liquid of smaller specific gravity is introduced into an outer peripheral portion, and the two liquids are brought into direct contact by exploiting the difference of the specific gravities thereof, to move an extract contained in one of the liquids into the other liquid, pipe means or groove-shaped members having a large number of small holes and serving to distribute the liquids are arranged in the outer peripheral portion and the inner peripheral portion inside the rotor in such a manner that they extend in parallel with a shaft for the rotor and that the holes of the means or members in the outer and inner peripheral portions face each other.
