Abstract: An image reading apparatus and an image expansion and contraction correcting method are provided that improve the quality of each read image by restraining image expansion and contraction caused by a variation in the combination of conveying units that are conveying each document. The image reading apparatus that includes conveying units (a first conveying unit, a second conveying unit, and a third conveying unit) that convey each document, and an image reading unit (a first image reading unit and a second image reading unit) that reads an image of each document being conveyed by the conveying units. In the image reading apparatus, the image reading speed of the image reading unit is adjusted in accordance with a change in the combination of conveying units that are conveying a document, so as to correct image expansion and contraction caused by a change in document conveying speed caused by the change in the combination of conveying units.

Abstract: An image scanning device including: a conveyance path which conveys originals; a first scanning means and a second scanning means which are placed such that they sandwich the conveyance path; and a white reference member used for adjusting the white levels of the scanning means; wherein at least one of the first scanning means, the second scanning means and the white reference member is movable; the first scanning means and the second scanning means can scan the same surface of said white reference member since the first scanning means or the second scanning means is moved or the white reference member is moved.

Abstract: An original-transporting rotor configured to transport an original to an image-reading section and, after correcting skew of the original, to an original-transporting section capable of opening and closing relative to the image-reading section is provided. The original-transporting rotor is supported so as to define a variable angle with a light source provided in the image-reading section. When the original-transporting section is closed, an original-transporting mechanism is positioned by position regulating members.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus has an original placing portion on which an original is placed, a feed portion for feeding the original placed on the original placing portion to convey the original from one end side of an original plate onto the original plate, a conveying rotary member for conveying the original on the original plate, a reversing and conveying portion for reversing the front side and back side of the original conveyed to the other end side of the original plate by the conveying rotary member, and conveying the reversed original from the other end side onto the original plate, an image reading unit for reading the image of the original stopped on the original plate while being moved, and a control portion for controlling the driving of the conveying rotary member.

Abstract: An image scanner in which in scanning an image of a document placed on a scanner body, an image scanning device moves and scans the image of the document. In scanning an image of a document fed by a document feeder to the scanner body, the image scanning device moves to a predetermined scanning position and then scans the image of the document in the scanning position. When the image scanning device arrives at the scanning position, the image scanning device is pressed against a stopper that is positioned relative to the document feeder.
