  • Patent number: 8094757
Abstract: A selective decision-feedback detector for the space-time block code which provides both diversity and spatial multiplexing. To detect a received code block of transmitted symbols, the channel matrix is properly preprocessed with the real and imaginary parts decoupled, and the selective decision-feedback detector makes multiple decisions on the same block upon differently permuted channel matrix and generates multiple candidates for the results. The indicators of the decision errors associated with the candidates are compared, and one of the candidates with the minimum error is selected by a selector as the decided symbols to be used for further processing at a receiving station.

  • Publication number: 20110310861
Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to systems and methods for timing synchronization. Uplink synchronization is a necessary component of a UE operating in a mobile, wireless network. Reliable uplink synchronization generally requires regular uplink transmission containing reference signals. A method is provided that defines a burst period for sending the reference signals, determines an interval between the reference signals, and sends a timing instruction message that includes the burst period and the determined interval. A second method is provided that receives the timing instruction message and sends the reference signals in accordance with the timing instruction.

  • Publication number: 20110280238
Abstract: Improved orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) communication slot structures and method are described. One example method includes converting a first portion of a set of bits to a first orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing symbol to be transmitted during a first portion of a time-division multiple access time slot, and converting a second portion of the set of bits to a second orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing symbol to be transmitted during a second portion of the time-division multiple access time slot. Other embodiments are shown and described.

  • Publication number: 20110280220
Abstract: A method in a network access equipment is provided. The method includes defining a burst duration for sending a plurality of reference signals. The method further includes determining an interval between ones of the plurality of reference signals in the burst duration. The method further includes defining a burst period for sending a plurality of reference signal bursts. The method further includes sending a reference signal instruction message containing an activation message and at least one of the burst duration, the interval, and the burst period.

  • Patent number: 8050354
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating communication of a data block communicated in an OFDM-based, communication system. Side-information required to be transmitted by many PAPR reduction schemes in OFDM is carried and transmitted by sending orthogonal binary sequences superimposed on the OFDM data sequence carrying the information to be transmitted. In one embodiment, a selected scrambling sequence is multiplied with an input data block to yield a desired Peak-To-Average Power Ratio. An identification sequence one-to-one corresponding to the scrambling sequence is superimposed on the resultant sequence and transmitted together. In the receiving station, the identification sequence is determined through correlation operations. This also determines the scrambling sequence. The effects of both sequences are finally removed from the information-carrying data sequence.

  • Publication number: 20110205947
Abstract: The application relates to a method for communication from a second mobile station to a base station or vice versa. In a given multiframe, a first SACCH slot associated with the second mobile station is communicated (i.e. received or transmitted or both) via the second VAMOS subchannel. In the same multiframe, a redundant second SACCH slot associated with the second mobile station is communicated. The communicating step is performed either by the second mobile station or by the base station. The second SACCH slot may be communicated via the second VAMOS subchannel, in case the second VAMOS subchannel is in DTX mode. In an alternative embodiment, the second SACCH slot may be communicated via a first VAMOS subchannel, in case the first VAMOS subchannel is in DTX mode, wherein the first and second VAMOS subchannels share a common time slot and have the same carrier frequency. Both embodiments may be combined: I.e.

  • Publication number: 20110189984
Abstract: A user equipment and a wireless radio frequency assistant in a communication system that supports multiple input multiple output. The wireless radio frequency assistant and the user equipment operate together as a single system. The user equipment controls and activates the wireless radio frequency assistant to transform a first frequency of a radio frequency signal transmitted to the system of user equipment and the wireless radio frequency assistant to a second frequency. The wireless radio frequency assistant transmits the second frequency to the user equipment.

  • Publication number: 20110182342
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for sending a data block in an OFDM, or other MCM, communication system with reduced PAPR is provided. The data block is combined with a random scrambling sequence. An IDFT operation is performed upon the combined sequence, and its PAPR, peak-to-average power ratio, is calculated. The PAPR is compared against a threshold. If the PAPR is smaller than a threshold, the transformed, combination sequence is transmitted. Otherwise, a different scrambling sequence, if available, is used to form a new combination sequence, and the process iterates until either a PAPR smaller than the threshold is obtained, or a pre-defined maximum number of iterations is reached. If the maximum number of iterations is reached and no combination sequence is created that leads to an acceptable PAPR, then the transformed, combination sequence that exhibits the smallest PAPR level is selected for transmission.

  • Publication number: 20090316828
Abstract: An apparatus, and an associated methodology, for facilitating communication of data in a wireless communication systems. Binary data are modulated to form modulated symbols on parallel paths. The symbols formed on one of the parallel paths are phase-offset by a phase rotator to form phase-offset symbols. The parallel paths of symbols provide the symbols, both the phase-offset symbols and the symbols that are not phase-offset, to an Alamouti encoder. As a result, the dynamic range of the transmitted RF signals is reduced due to the introduction of the phase offset between the symbols of the parallel paths applied to the Alamouti encoder.
