  • Patent number: 5667913
Abstract: An electroconductive polymer composite for use in secondary batteries as positive electrode active materials is disclosed. It includes 10-99 weight percent of a conjugated electroconductive polymer, such as polyaniline, and 90-1 weight percent of polymeric electrolyte. The latter is composed of 10-90 weight percent of an ionic salt, such as LiClO.sub.4, and 90-10 weight percent of a polymer which can form an electrolyte material with the ionic salt. The polymer, for example, can be polyvinyl alcohol or polyalkylene oxide. A method of using the electroconductive polymer composite to prepare the positive electrode of secondary batteries is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5641859
Abstract: The present invention discloses a water-soluble self-acid-doped polyaniline, and its sodium salt, which can be cast into free-standing films from their aqueous solutions. A process for preparing a water-soluble self-acid-doped polyaniline is also disclosed, which comprises reacting a polyaniline with a strong base to convert the amino nitrogen thereof to anionic nitrogen; reacting sultone with the anionic nitrogen to form a side chain alkanesulfonic acid group; doping with protonic acid to form precipitate; dissolving (undoping) the precipitate in an alkaline aqueous solution; removing excess alkali from the alkaline aqueous solution; and contacting the resulting aqueous solution with a H.sup.+ -type ion exchange resin. Moreover, an aqueous solution of the present water-soluble self-acid-doped PAn can be easily mixed with an additional water soluble polymer or polymer emulsion, which can then be cased into a polymer blend film having improved mechanical properties and coupling strength to a substrate.

  • Patent number: 5571454
Abstract: This invention relates to homogeneously doped conductive polymer and a polymer blend thereof, wherein the dopant is a protonic acid having long carbon chain or larger substituent group. The resulting doped conductive polymer solution and polymer blend solution thereof can be cast to form free-standing films with metallic luster, of which the conductivities remain stable in the ambient condition and are in the range of 10.sup.-6 to 10.sup.-1 S/cm. The conductive polymer film and the conductive polymer composite film so prepared can be utilized in the anti-static wrapping materials for electronic components, and in electromagnetic interference shielding.

  • Patent number: 5510457
Abstract: A method for preparing a processable polyisothianaphthene polymer includes steps of dissolving an isothianaphthene monomer in a solvent and introducing therein an initiator to initiate a polymerization reaction to produce a precursor of poly(dihydroisothianaphthene), dissolving thoroughly the precursor of poly(dihydroisothianaphthene) in the solvent in an appropriate ratio to obtain a poly(dihydroisothianaphthene) solution, proceeding a dehydrogenation reaction for the poly(dihydroisothianaphthene) solution by introducing a dehydrogenation agent to obtain a polyisothianaphthene microgel solution, and terminating the dehydrogenation reaction by introducing an inhibitor. This invention offers a simple, feasible, and economical way to prepare a large-area film with uniform film thickness, excellent stability, and good electrochromic, conducting, and mechanical properties.

  • Patent number: 5314976
Abstract: Conjugated conductive polymers which are photo-responsive upon ultra-violet light or visible light irradiation are prepared from copolymerization of photo-responsive groups containing heterocyclic monomers and 3-substituted heterocyclic monomers with the substituent containing a flexible segment like an alkyl group, ethoxyl group or siloxane group. The conductivity of the polymer can be controlled reversibly by irradiation of light and so can be used in optical-electronic applications or a production of detectors.
