  • Patent number: 4127505
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of a catalyst component for use in the polymerization of .alpha.-olefins, which comprises reacting titanium tetrachloride with a dialkylaluminum monohalide and monoalkylaluminum dihalide, said dialkylaluminum monohalide being in a proportion of at least equimolar to said titanium tetrachloride, to thus obtain a violet reduced solid, then removing aluminum compounds contained in said reduced solid and further activating with a mixture or complex of titanium tetrachloride and a dialkyl ether of the general formula ROR' wherein R and R' are the same or different and are (a) alkyl groups having 1-4 carbon atoms, (b) normal alkyl groups having 5 carbon atoms or (c) alkyl groups having 6-20 carbon atoms and to a catalyst component prepared by the process of the invention.

  • Patent number: 4120908
Abstract: A C.sub.8 aromatic hydrocarbon mixture which typically may consist essentially of xylenes and ethylbenzene, the latter being present in an amount of not more than 40 weight percent, is converted to a product containing an increased proportion of p-xylene by bringing it into contact with an acid leached hydrogen form mordenite having a silica to alumina mole ratio of 15-21 at a temperature in the range of 180.degree. to 250.degree. C. under a pressure of atmospheric to 200 Kg/cm.sup.2. Hydrogen may be present in the system in a mole ratio of hydrogen to C.sub.8 aromatic hydrocarbon mixture of 0-10. The reaction may be conducted in the vapor phase or in the liquid phase.

  • Patent number: 4064069
Abstract: This invention relates to a catalyst composition for polymerization of propylene, having high activity and producing polypropylene of high stereoregularity and having a low particle size distribution, which comprises;1. reducing TiCl.sub.4 by diethylaluminum chloride (DEAC), thereby forming a reduced solid (TiCl.sub.3),2. removing the aluminum compounds from the reduced catalyst,3. treating the said reduced solid with the mixture or complex of TiCl.sub.4 and diisoamylether (IAE) and4. separating the solid catalyst from the mixture. The aluminum compounds may be removed by washing with a complexing agent therefor; in a preferred embodiment the complexing agent is di-n-butyl ether.

  • Patent number: 4062804
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for preparing a catalyst composition for polymerization of propylene, having high activity and producing polypropylene of high stereoregularity in narrow particle size distribution, which comprises:1. reducing TiCl.sub.4 by a mixture of diethylaluminum chloride (DEAC) and ethylaluminum dichloride (EADC), thereby forming a reduced solid (TiCl.sub.3),2. removing the aluminum compound from the reduced solid;3. treating the said reduced solid with a mixture or complex of TiCl.sub.4 and diisoamylether (IAE), and4. separating the solid catalyst from the solution.Preferably step 2 is performed by washing with a complexing agent for the aluminum compound.

  • Patent number: 4038477
Abstract: Spherical polyolefin (or modified polyolefin) powders having high bulk density, narrow particle size distribution and good powder flowability are prepared by cooling a polyolefin solution comprising a solvent and nonsolvent for the polyolefin and containing a small amount of an inorganic compound and, if desired, water. The polyolefin powders are suitable for powder coating. Suitable solvents are hydrocarbons, such as hexane, heptane, etc., and a mixture of hydrocarbon and nonsolvent for polyolefin such as methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, etc. The ratio of a hydrocarbon/nonsolvent is 95/5 - 30/70, preferably 90/10 - 50/50. Suitable inorganic compounds are phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, sulfurous acid, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, ammonium hydroxide, inorganic salts thereof, etc. and the most preferable inorganic compound is phosphoric acid.

  • Patent number: 4015049
Abstract: The adhesive strength of a metallic layer prepared by vacuum metallizing on an unsaturated carboxylic acid modified polyolefin article is substantially increased by heating below the melting point of the polyolefin after the metallization. Preferable heating temperature is 92.degree.-157.degree. C. for polypropylene and heating time is 10 sec. - 1 hour. An aluminum layer obtained by this invention has remaining ratio of 100% after cross cut test.
