  • Publication number: 20210236844
Abstract: A phototherapy monitoring device (10) includes a housing (12) configured for attachment to a patient, and a user interfacing device. An optical bilimbin sensor (14) includes one or more light sources (16) operative to generate probe light and arranged on or in the housing such that the probe light is reflected from or transmitted through skin of the patient when the housing is attached to the patient; and one or more photodetectors (18) arranged on or in the housing to detect the probe light reflected from or transmitted through the skin of the patient. At least one electronic processor (28) is disposed on or in the housing and programmed to: continuously generate a current bilimbin level measurement from the detected probe light reflected from or transmitted through the skin of the patient; and control the user interfacing device to generate a notification when the current bilirubin level measurement satisfies a safe bilimbin level.

  • Patent number: 10980478
Abstract: Peripheral oedema causes a swelling of the legs of a patient due to an abnormal accumulation of fluids in the interstitium of the patient. Oedema is directly related to heart diseases, kidney and liver problems and pathological conditions. As such, is a useful indicator of a person's overall health. Oedema is typically assessed by a subjective manual test administered by a medical professional. As such, an objective assessment of oedema is often difficult to make. The present disclosure concerns a device for tissue condition measurement. The device enables an objective assessment of oedema to be made, by providing to a medical professional, or a medical ancillary worker, with information useful to judge the presence of oedema.

  • Patent number: 9968282
Abstract: A medical system (10) and method measures hemoglobin level of a subject (38). A hemoglobin color scale (HbCS) (22) is projected into afield of view (FOV) (42) of an imaging system (12). The HbCS (22) includes a plurality of blood color regions (26a-f), each blood color region (26a-f) corresponding to a hemoglobin level and colored to represent the color of blood at the corresponding hemoglobin level. • Publication number: 20150258267
Abstract: Systems, combinations, and/or methods for separating plasma from a drop of blood use a capillary tube and a filter membrane having a rough side and a smooth side. The pores on the rough side of the filter membrane are large enough for blood cells to enter and be captured. The pores on the smooth side of the filter membrane are small enough to block blood cells, but allow the plasma within the drop of blood to pass through the smooth side of the filter membrane.

  • Publication number: 20150185233
Abstract: The present disclosure pertains to a system for separating plasma and/or serum from blood. The system is configured to separate plasma and/or serum from between about 20 and about 50 ?l of blood. Separating plasma and/or serum from that amount of blood may be useful during a bilirubin level estimation in newborn babies. The system alleviates the need to centrifuge a sample of blood to separate the blood plasma and/or serum. The system is configured such that the separated serum is held by the system during an optical analysis to estimate bilirubin levels, thus eliminating the need to transfer the serum sample to a cuvette for analysis. In some embodiments, the system comprises a cartridge body, a filter, a serum pathway, an analysis port, a negative pressure source, a suction connector port, and/or other components.

  • Publication number: 20150173662
Abstract: Provided are systems and methods for minimally invasive arterial blood gas measurements. Blood samples are collected using capillary microstructures that minimize patient discomfort and collect samples in a manner such that the samples are not exposed to an environment outside of the sample collection portion. One or more characteristics of the blood sample are then calculated and used to derive one or more arterial blood gas measurements for the sample.
