  • Publication number: 20110185075
Abstract: A system and method for reducing transmission collisions. In one embodiment, a transmitter for communicating of a smart grid power line network includes an arbiter. The arbiter is configured to select a transmission interval during which the transmitter can transmit. The interval is selected from a plurality of available transmission intervals reserved for contending transmissions, and selected based on a level of a hierarchical network at which the transmitter is located. The interval selected is different from any interval used by a different transmitter spaced two hierarchical levels away from the level of the hierarchical network at which the transmitter is located.

  • Publication number: 20100272192
Abstract: A device for communicating digital data over power lines includes a power line interface for transmitting data over at least one band of frequencies. An orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation unit generates OFDM symbols using a set of tones for the frequency band. A preamble generation unit generates preamble sequences for the frequency band by using the set of tones used by the OFDM modulation unit. The tones used by the preamble generation unit have a constant magnitude, and a set of phases obtained by quantizing to a small alphabet the phase of a set of tones obtained by taking an IFFT of a portion of a preamble used by a non-interoperable powerline access device. The device may transmit on two or more bands using a sampling frequency clock, wherein a lower band clock frequency is equal to or an integer divisor of a higher band clock frequency.

  • Publication number: 20100214942
Abstract: In accordance with at least some embodiments, a system includes an access point and a station in communication with the access point. The station selectively implements adaptive periodic Power-Save (APPS)-Polling logic for communications between the station and the access point. The APPS-Polling logic is configured to determine a timer value for periodic PS-Polling by monitoring a periodicity of arrival packets for at least a threshold amount of time.

  • Publication number: 20100189024
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a dynamic priority adjustment algorithm for PS-Poll packets in WLAN and dynamic CW (contention window) management algorithm for PS-Poll packets in WLAN. These improve the performance of traffic flows associated with STAs in power save mode. Maintain the QoS requirements of the traffic flows. When PS-Poll packets are not able to be sent, the QoS STA will experience a long delay of the downlink data, even if the downlink data has been assigned a higher AC. The delay may potentially violate the QoS bound required by the data flow. Using the embodiments can significantly decrease the probability of this event.

  • Publication number: 20090191874
Abstract: A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) (152) in a wireless communications system includes a transceiver (153) for transmitting and receiving data from a plurality of base stations (154, 156, 357) and a controller (151) communicatively coupled to the transceiver (153) and configured to adjust an operation mode of the transceiver (153). In the WTRU (152), adjusting comprises configuring the transceiver (153) to begin a radio link handover procedure responsive to receiving a handover (HO) command from a first of the plurality of base stations (154, 156, 357) over a first communications link, specifying a first time, and reconfiguring the transceiver (153) to begin a radio link interruption procedure responsive to an expiry of the first time prior to completion of the radio link handover procedure. In the WTRU (152), the radio link interruption procedure first attempts to re-establish the first communications link.

  • Patent number: 7387612
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device with an ultrasonic-based probe for drilling and coring. The invention uses ultrasonic and subsonic vibrations produced by a frequency compensation coupler or free mass to produce the hammering action of a partially disengaged probe, with a relatively low axial force required. The invention can also be fitted with irrigation and aspiration capabilities. The invention can furthermore be furnished with a body sensor-feedback apparatus, which provides feedback to the operator as to the optimal frequency and power use of the generator. One embodiment of the invention also has a cooling mechanism to keep the drill or coring apparatus at an optimum temperature.
