The crystalline material is fractured along the subsurface laser damage region to produce a bonded assembly including the carrier and a portion of the crystalline material. Fracturing of the crystalline material may be promoted by (i) application of a mechanical force proximate to at least one carrier edge to impart a bending moment in the carrier; (ii) cooling the carrier when the carrier has a greater coefficient of thermal expansion than the crystalline material; and/or (iii) applying ultrasonic energy to the crystalline material.

    Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method for separating a neural crest derived cell from peripheral blood. In the present disclosure, a mononuclear cell is separated from the peripheral blood and then directly cultured, thereby maximizing use of a neural crest stem cell with a differentiation potential to avoid loss of the neural crest stem cell. In the method of the present disclosure, a sample to be separated is derived from the peripheral blood. The method shows less trauma and low cost. Most importantly, compared to extracting the neural crest derived cell from tissues, the neural crest derived cell extracted from the peripheral blood can be used clinically as a type of biomarker.

    Abstract: Methods of modeling the in vivo efficacy of drug combinations for the treatment or prevention of viral infection are described. The described methods combine data for single drugs and drug combinations from pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and viral dynamics models under a series of estimated in vivo drug potencies to provide predictions of the in vivo effects of the drug combinations. These predictions can be used to more accurately select drugs and drug treatment regimens that can be successful in controlling viral infection in animal studies, clinical trials and in medical or veterinary interventions. Also described is a method of treating or preventing filovirus infections using combinations of orally available drugs based on predictions from the modeling methods.
