Patent number: 9205444Abstract: A conditioning system that conditions exterior air for use in a spray booth. The exterior air is conditioned and subsequently used to carry away coating mist, dust, and contaminants from a spray area. The conditioning system heats, cools, humidifies, and dehumidifies the exterior air to a variable set point. The variable set point, while bounded by dry-bulb temperature and relative humidity constraints, is selected based upon cost and/or energy minimization. Additionally, the set point selection may be based upon future predicted weather conditions that are determined with a mathematical profile of previous weather conditions and weather trends in a localized domain, where the localized domain is a geographic area surrounding a manufacturing plant that includes a spray booth.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2013Date of Patent: December 8, 2015Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventor: Shubho Bhattacharya

Patent number: 8235674Abstract: A paint circulation pump control system having a plurality of pneumatic or hydraulic pump assemblies that operate at different outputs in response to load changes on a paint application system is provided. Each pump assembly includes a first regulator and second regulator having different pressure output settings selectively connecting a compressed air source with a pump. A control valve in each pump assembly is responsive to a single switch to connect the compressed air source to the pumps via the first or second regulators. When the switch directs a change, all of the pump assemblies simultaneously change the regulator that is connecting the pump with the compressed air source.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2009Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Shubho Bhattacharya, Sarah Crush

Patent number: 7238235Abstract: A system and method for applying a material for improving the adhesion between the surface of thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) elements and a coating applied thereto is disclosed. The system comprises the mixing of an adhesion promoter with de-ionized water and applying it to the surface of the TPO elements to be coated. Preferably, the application occurs in an atmospherically controlled enclosure. The application of the adhesion promoter is preferably accomplished by flowing the mixture over the TPO elements through an application device that minimizes agitation and splashing of the mixture. Multiple parameters of the application system may be monitored and regulated. Upon completion of the application process, the treated TPO elements are preferably dried in an oven, leaving a thin layer of adhesion promoter over the surface thereof. Use of the application device ensures that minimal defects are present in the dried adhesion promoter layer.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2005Date of Patent: July 3, 2007Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Shubho Bhattacharya, Laura McBride, Yoshihiro Yamamoto, Shojiro Takeuchi, Saul Gonzalez Gutierrez

The system comprises the mixing of an adhesion promoter with de-ionized water and applying it to the surface of the TPO elements to be coated. Preferably, the application occurs in an atmospherically controlled enclosure. The application of the adhesion promoter is preferably accomplished by distributing the mixture over the TPO elements through a series of nozzles. Multiple parameters of the application system may be monitored and regulated. Upon completion of the application process, the treated TPO elements are preferably dried in an oven, leaving a thin layer of adhesion promoter over the surface thereof.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2003Date of Patent: April 5, 2005Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Shubho Bhattacharya, Laura McBride, Yoshihiro Yamamoto, Shojiro Takeuchi, Saul Gonzalez Gutierrez
