Abstract: An image display apparatus determines, based on information obtained from an image supply apparatus via a communication interface, whether or not the image display apparatus has a capability of displaying an image of a first dynamic range that is generated in the image supply apparatus, and if the image display apparatus has a capability of displaying an image of the first dynamic range, requests the image supply apparatus for an image of the first dynamic range, and if the image display apparatus does not have a capability of displaying an image of the first dynamic range, requests the image supply apparatus for an image of a second dynamic range that can be displayed on the image display apparatus.
