  • Patent number: 8622921
Abstract: A sleep evaluation device (1) has a sensor unit (2) that constantly detects body movements of a human subject on bedding, and has a determiner that, based on results of detection, determines a sleep state and an aroused state of the human subject. The determiner quantifies results of detection of the sensor unit into N number of body movement data (where, N is a positive integral number satisfying N?2) and obtains, based on G number of standard deviations for each of G groups (in which G is an integral number satisfying 2?G<N) dividing N number of body movement data and for each body movement data and gs (gs<G) number of standard deviations selected therefrom, L number of average value of standard deviations (where L is an integral number satisfying 2?L?G). The determination of a sleep state and an aroused state of the human subject is based on G number of standard deviations and L number of average values of standard deviations.

  • Patent number: 8608655
Abstract: A sleep evaluation device 1 is provided with a respiration detection unit 7 that detects changes in respiration and outputs respiration signals. CPU 6 generates six primary parameters indicating sleep states based on the respiration signals and four secondary parameters based on the primary parameters. The secondary parameters are linearly independent of one another. Evaluation unit 20 computes a sleep score indicating the degree of the quality of sleep by multiplying each of the four secondary parameters by second coefficients and totalizing results of the multiplications. Results of the evaluations are displayed on display unit 4.

  • Patent number: 7427270
Abstract: Disclosed is a sleep stage determination apparatus which comprises respiratory-signal detection means for detecting a variation of a respiratory signal from the body of a human subject, and sleep-stage determination means for determining a plurality of sleep stages using only the respiratory-signal variation. The sleep stage determination apparatus of the present invention can eliminate the need for detecting a plurality of biological signals and have simplified sensor and circuit configurations designed to detect only the respiratory signal variation which is relatively easily detectable. This makes it possible to reduce a detection error and achieve enhanced determination accuracy or creditability.

  • Patent number: 6980853
Abstract: An apparatus is provided which allows a subject to determine by himself/herself whether or not he/she is apt to develop a deep-vein thrombosis in a region of a lower limb in a simple manner. A variation between the bioelectric impedance values measured respectively before and after a posture change is compared with a reference value. The posture change includes a bending and stretching exercise, a bending and stretching in knees in a seated position and a repeating of standing-up and sitting-down motion. Alternatively, a blood storage capacity of the lower limb region may be estimated from a gradient of bioelectric impedance represented by a variation thereof per unit time to determine whether or not the subject is apt to develop deep-vein thrombosis in the lower limb region.

  • Publication number: 20030163061
Abstract: An apparatus is provided which allows a subject to determine by himself/herself whether or not he/she has a status apt to develop a deep-vein thrombosis in a region of lower limb in a simple manner. A subject is instructed to change his/her body orientation from one to another so as to apply a load to muscles in the lower limb region and thereby to force the blood having stored in the lower limb deep-vein to be circulated entirely across the body by a muscular pumping action. By measuring the bioelectric impedance at this time, a transfer of body fluid (blood) within the body can be captured. A motion for changing the posture includes a bending and stretching exercise, a bending and stretching in knees in a seated position and a repeating of standing-up and sitting-down motion, and a variation between the bioelectric impedance values measured respectively before and after such a posture change is compared with a reference value.
