  • Patent number: 7212179
Abstract: A correction voltage retaining capacitor C2, a correction voltage write transistor Tr4, and a switching transistor Tr5 are added to a pixel structure of an SES drive method provided with an organic EL element E1 as a light emitting element, a light emission drive transistor Tr1, a data write transistor Tr2, and an erase transistor Tr3 which can erase electrical charges in a light emission maintaining capacitor C1. With the ON operation of the erase transistor Tr3, the correction voltage write transistor Tr4 is turned on, and the switching transistor Tr5 is turned off. In this state, the threshold voltage (Vth) of the light emission drive transistor Tr1 is written in the correction voltage retaining capacitor C2. When pixels are lit, by a gate-to-source voltage obtained by adding the threshold voltage written in the correction voltage retaining capacitor C2 to a data voltage written in the light emission maintaining capacitor C1, drain current of the light emission drive transistor Tr1 flows.

  • Publication number: 20070008252
Abstract: A display data detection means 4b detects whether arrangements of video data corresponding to one scan and video data corresponding to the next scan are the same. When it is judged that the arrangements are not the same, the display data detection means 4b issues instructions to open gates to AND gates 6 and 7. Therefore, when the arrangements of the video data of two consecutive scanning lines are not the same, the data driver 2 operates for every scan, and outputs display data which are different for every scan to a display panel. When the above-mentioned display data detection means 4b judges that the arrangements of the video data of the two consecutive scanning lines are the same, the gates of AND gates 6 and 7 are closed. Thus, the operation of the data driver 2 is stopped, and a latch circuit in the data driver 2 holds the previous video data and outputs the same display data for every scan to the display panel.

  • Publication number: 20050219170
Abstract: In a drive device of a light emitting display panel by a pixel structure of a SES drive method comprising an organic EL element E1 as a light emitting element, a light emission drive transistor Tr1, a scan selection transistor Tr2, and an erase transistor Tr3, in order to remove electrical charges accumulated in the EL element E1, a reset transistor Tr4 is arranged between both terminals of the EL element E1 in parallel thereto, and the gate of the reset transistor is commonly connected to the gate of the erase transistor. With this structure, the erase transistor Tr3 and the reset transistor Tr4 are both turned on by an erase signal from an erase driver so that electrical charges accumulated in the EL element E1 and electrical charges of a light emission maintaining capacitor can be discharged at the same time. Thus, a rising characteristic of light emission of the EL element E1 in each subframe can be made nearly uniform.

  • Publication number: 20050104822
Abstract: A self light emission display device which substantially enables dual scan drive by one data driver comprises a plurality of scan lines K1, K2, . . . which are arranged in a horizontal direction, a plurality of data lines A1, A2, . . . which intersect these scan lines and are arranged in a vertical direction, and a plurality of light emitting elements Ra11, Rb11, . . . arranged on intersecting areas of the scan lines and the data lines. Cathode terminals of the light emitting elements whose anode terminals are connected respectively to the two adjacent data lines A1, A2 are connected to different scan lines one by one. Any two of the scan lines are selected for scanning simultaneously. Thus, since light emission duty of each EL element can also be approximately doubled, instantaneous light emission intensity of each EL element can be set low, and stress on the EL elements can be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20040263503
Abstract: An active matrix type EL display device is constructed in such a way that a reverse bias voltage can be effectively applied to an EL element without decreasing the lighting time rate thereof. An EL element E1 constituting one pixel 10 is driven to be lit by a write transistor Tr1 and a driving transistor Tr2 and the lighting time of the EL element is controlled by an erase transistor Tr3 so that a multi-gradation expression is realized. The drain of a reverse bias applying transistor is connected to the anode terminal of the EL element E1, and the gate and the source of the same transistor Tr4 are connected to the respective gates of the erase transistor Tr3 and the write transistor Tr1, respectively. By this structure, an ON operation of the reverse bias applying transistor Tr4 is implemented in synchronization with an ON operation of the erase transistor Tr3 so that a reverse bias voltage can be supplied to the EL element E1.

  • Patent number: 6788277
Abstract: Power saving is more realized when a partial display is executed in active matrix type EL display elements. When the partial display is executed, a scan driver 2 repeatedly scans all the scan lines as executed ordinarily. In contrast, when a scan shifts from a display region to a non-display region, black display data is captured by a shift resister 1a in a data driver 1 for one horizontal period and latched by a latch circuit 1b. Then, while the non-display region is being scanned, the drive of the data driver 1 is stopped. Accordingly, in the scan of the non-display region, a non-display state is achieved by the black display data latched by the latch circuit 1b. Low power consumption can be realized because the drive of the data driver 1 operating at a high speed is stopped while the non-display region is being scanned.
