    Abstract: A turbine shaft structure of a multistage pump-turbine comprises at least two parts of upper and lower shaft parts generally connected at a runner portion of the highest pressure stage at which adverse external or internal effect is likely to be mostly applied. The runner portion of the highest pressure stage is provided with an axially vertical hole into which an upper end portion of the lower shaft part of the turbine shaft is inserted and the inserted upper end portion is welded to the wall of the vertical hole.
