  • Patent number: 6744698
Abstract: A first control unit 110 and second control unit 120 are disposed to a portable data terminal 100 having a heavy load group 140 and light load group 150. The first control unit 110 detects the output voltage of a secondary battery 105 and controls power supply to the heavy load group 140 by switching a first switch S1. When the first control unit 110 stops power supply to the heavy load group 140, it outputs a low level control signal CC to the second control unit 120. The load of driving the second control unit 120 is designed to be smaller than the load of driving the first control unit 110. When the control signal CC is received, the second control unit 120 starts detecting the output voltage of the secondary battery 105, and stops power supply to the switch light load group 150 and first control unit 110 if the output voltage is detected to drop to a preset threshold voltage.

  • Patent number: 6531988
Abstract: An antenna device for a high-frequency radio apparatus that enables the apparatus to be made compact and improves its sensitivity. The antenna has an L-shaped antenna element, the shorter part of which extends perpendicularly from a circuit substrate which has a ground pattern formed thereon. The area of the orthogonal projection of the longer part of the L-shaped antenna element, which is spaced apart from the circuit substrate and substantially parallel to its surface which has the ground pattern formed thereon, is smaller than the area of the ground pattern. The antenna also has a feeding line which is substantially parallel to the shorter part of the L-shaped antenna element. A dielectric member, which also functions to secure various components, is placed close to the antenna element so as to set the resonance frequency of the antenna device.

  • Patent number: 6396144
Abstract: An IC mounting structure and a communication apparatus is provided in which the structure of a circuit substrate is improved, the positional relationship between an IC and an antenna member is optimized, and the influence of high-frequency noises from the active surface of the IC can be prevented. In a wrist-fitting communication apparatus, an IC which generates high-frequency noises is face-down bonded on a circuit substrate such that the active surface faces the side opposite to the direction where most of or the entire antenna member is positioned. The circuit substrate is a multilayer substrate in which a shielding electrode layer maintained at the ground potential or a power supply potential is formed. High-frequency noises generated from the active surface of the IC are reduced by the shielding electrode layer. Also, electromagnetic field leaking to the surroundings is weak. Accordingly, the influence of noise upon the antenna member is small.

  • Patent number: 5940041
Abstract: A miniaturized and thin slot antenna device maintains high transmitting and receiving performance by improving the configuration of an antenna body and a circuit substrate. The slot antenna device includes an antenna body made of an electrically conductive member having a slot into which the circuit substrate is placed. Alternatively, the slotted, electrically conductive member can be placed flat on a first surface of the circuit substrate, which can contain a reflector on its second, opposite surface. The slot antenna device also can be constructed from two parallel, opposed, electrically conductive members spaced apart by a gap so that a slot is defined by outer peripheries of the electrically conductive members. The electrically conductive members can be provided on opposite surfaces of a circuit substrate.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a wristwatch type paging device having a structure for preventing the intrusion of static electricity. The paging device is provided for receiving or transmitting signals. A pager circuit is provided for controlling and operating on the received or signals to be transmitted. A pager body, having a two part wrist band coupled thereto, houses the pager circuit. The body is formed with at least a conductive portion. The band fastens around the wrist of the user and carries antenna portions. A fastener mechanically couples the end portions and electronically couples the antenna portions. The conductive portion of the pager body is set to the AC ground potential (the potential of one of the positive or negative electrodes of the battery). A balanced varactor diode circuit is provided between the antenna portion ends defining an essentially neutral point coupled to one of its positive and negative electrodes.
