  • Patent number: 4966221
Abstract: Porous material of metal is held in a die and molten aluminum alloy is introduced into the die to surround the porous material. Thus, high-pressure squeeze casting is accomplished under an applied pressure of not lower than 400 Kg/cm.sup.2 to form an aluminum alloy casting stock with the porous material cast therein. The casting stock is heated to and maintained at 450.degree. to 550.degree. C. for 1 to 10 hours, and an intermetallic compound layer of aluminum and the metal of the porous material is thereby formed on the boundary between the porous material and the aluminum alloy.

  • Patent number: 4774990
Abstract: A casting core adapted to be placed inside a molding cavity for defining a cored-out hollow inside a metal casting, which core comprises a first coated layer formed on an exterior surface of the casting core by coating a slurry containing powdery refractory material, and a second coated layer formed over the first coated layer by applying a solution containing graphite particles. A method of making a metal casting with the use of the casting core is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4695699
Abstract: A composite member is made by fitting a functional member constituted by an aluminum composite material capable of providing a desired target function to a recess of a base material constituted by an aluminum alloy and provided with the recess on the surface required to exhibit the desired target function. The entire peripheral section exposed at the outer surface among the joining sections of the base material with the functional member is beam-welded in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The beam-welded base material and the functional member are then subjected to diffusion bonding by pressing them at least in the fitting direction and heating them.
