  • Patent number: 4909311
Abstract: A cylindrically-shaped engine cooler for automobiles comprises a pair of water tanks or main coolant tubes, a plurality of water tubes connecting the water tanks or main coolant tubes, a plurality of cooling fins and at least one cooling fans. The cylindrical engine cooler is disposed in a vehicle so that the axis line of the cooler crosses the traveling line of a vehicle so that the air resistance against vehicle travel becomes small. The water tanks or main coolant tube can be used as the shroud for accommodating the cooling fan, when they are annularly shaped and disposed at the end of the cylindrically cooler. Two cooling fans disposed at the both ends of the cylindrically-shaped cooler may have different air-blowing capacity each other.

  • Patent number: 4539943
Abstract: An engine cooling system has a cross-flow fan disposed transversely in a car body between a radiator and an engine having a rotatable shaft coupled to and driven by a hydraulic motor which is actuated by an engine-operated hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump and the hydraulic motor are interconnected by supply and return passages, the supply passage having a directional control valve for selectively connecting the supply passage to the return passage in bypassing relation to the hydraulic motor to interrupt operation of the fan. A second directional control valve is connected parallel to the first-mentioned directional control valve for selectively connecting the supply passage to the return passage in bypassing relation to the hydraulic motor. Hydraulic cylinders are respectively controlled by these first and second directional control valves for respectively actuating a radiator shutter and a movable shroud.

  • Patent number: 4505641
Abstract: A cooling fan to be located between an internal combustion engine and a radiator and rotatingly driven from a rotational shaft of the engine. The fan includes a plurality of blade elements radially projecting from a boss portion and a cylindrical ring formed at the outer ends of the blade elements coaxially with the boss portion. In each blade element, a base line, which is drawn through a base point located on a chord of blade between leading and trailing edges of the blade element at a distance of 40% from the leading edge in percentage to the length of the chord, describes a straight or moderately curved line from the inner to the outer end of the blade element, which is inclined rotationally forward of a radial line passing through the base point at the inner end of the blade element.

  • Patent number: 4396351
Abstract: An engine cooling fan driven by an engine and located in a shroud extending from a radiator to the engine including a hub having a cylindrical rear end portion for mounting the fan on the engine, a plurality of blades provided on the hub and a ring fixedly provided on tip portions of the blades and extending in an axial direction so as to fully encircle the tips of the blades and forming a radial clearance between the shroud and the ring, the ring including a rear end portion positioned axially rearwardly of the cylindrical rear end of the shroud and extending radially outwardly of the shroud thereby restricting air flow from the rear side of the fan into the radial clearance formed between the shroud and the ring.

  • Patent number: 4334824
Abstract: A flexible fan device includes a power driven boss and a plurality of fan blades, each secured on the boss at an attached angle. The fan blade has a root portion secured to the boss and a tip portion offset with respect to the root portion in the downstream direction so that the blade angle is decreased under the influence of centrifugal force in response to an increase in the rotating speed. The fan blade is formed to have an angle inclined in the direction of rotation of the boss.
