  • Patent number: 4562503
Abstract: A main magnetic pole member and an auxiliary magnetic pole member of a perpendicular magnetic recording head are disposed such that they are opposed to each other with a recording medium for recording a signal thereon (i.e., a magnetic tape) interposed therebetween. In the central portion of a holder of the main magnetic pole member, a magnetic pole film is embedded such that its upper end edge is exposed on a sliding contact surface of the holder. The magnetic tape is brought into sliding contact with the magnetic pole film. A pair of electrodes are embedded in such a manner as to sandwich an upper end portion of the magnetic pole film within the holder, and at positions spaced by a suitable distance from such upper end portion of the magnetic pole film. The auxiliary magnetic pole member causes the generation of a uniform magnetic flux directed from the auxiliary magnetic pole member toward the magnetic pole film.

  • Patent number: 4531170
Abstract: A combination magnetic head is formed with first and second gaps on a head face to be slidably contacted with a tape. The head face has first, second and third surface sections, the first and second surface sections are respectively formed on the first and second cores, and the third section is formed on a spacer for integrally coupling the first and second cores. The first and third surface sections decreases in the width toward the second surface section, the second surface section varies in the width, and the second surface section becomes at the minimum in the width in the vicinity of the gap of the second surface section.

  • Patent number: 4423550
Abstract: A composite head structure having a front core consisting of a non-magnetic spacing device for separating a read-write magnetic flux path from an erase magnetic flu path and first and second core chips adhered together with the spacing device interposed between them. A read/write gap is formed at the central portion of the first core chip which is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the spacing device and whose width is defined by first and second notches which extend from respective side edges of the first core chip. Erase gaps are formed in the second core chip which extend between the side edges of the second core chip parallel to the longitudinal direction of the spacing device and whose widths are defined by a third notch formed at a position substantially corresponding to the read/write gap as viewed along the direction of the arrangement of the first and second core chips.
