Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided in which a probability of occurrence of an event expected to occur within a period of time is determined, where the event comprises one or more of a tune-away event and a suspension event. One or more transmission control protocol parameters are manipulated before the occurrence of the event when the probability of occurrence exceeds a threshold to increase a retransmission time out parameter value, or to maintain a desirable congestion window size. The transmission control protocol parameters may be manipulated by delaying, duplicating or dropping acknowledgements and/or by selectively dropping received packets before, during, or after the event.
