  • Publication number: 20160185015
Abstract: An automatic inside mold coloring method for stitches on a cover of a molded baseball or softball includes steps of: forming a ball core; placing a fiber layer around the ball core, infusing a liquid Polyurethane material into the fiber layer; attaching and aligning a masking jig onto inner side of the ball cover mold having multiple stitch-shape grooves to expose stitch-shape grooves while covering the rest of inner side of the ball cover mold; applying or spraying a coloring material onto said masking jig to fill the coloring material in the stitch-shape grooves; removing the masking jig from the ball cover mold; placing the ball core inside the ball cover mold and then in a metal mold holder; heating up the ball cover mold to cure the ball core; and removing a finished ball from the ball cover mold and the metal mold holder.

  • Publication number: 20150042010
Abstract: A production method for forming a baseball and softball cover whereby a ball core is one of any exiting baseball and softball cores built independently. An even layer of fibrous material in an elected thickness is affixed onto the ball core and liquid Polyurethane is applied to fully impregnate the fibrous material layer. The soaked ball core is then placed into a soft or flexible figure-8 ball cover shaping mold before it is locked in a metal mold holder. Heating and curing occur and the molds are removed to reveal a finished ball, of which the Polyurethane ball cover embedded with fibrous material becomes an integral part, while it simultaneously bonds itself firmly with the ball core in the molding process. The finished ball consequently acquires a molded one-piece ball cover with an even thickness throughout for added durability and integrity for performance.

  • Patent number: 8652285
Abstract: A method for producing baseballs and softballs, whereby a spherical core is independently formed and then a fiber material layer is attached, this fiber material layer is evenly brushed with a layer of polyurethane (PU), and this spherical core is placed in a ball cover mold made up of two or more mold pieces, and then heated, and finally the mold is removed to reveal the complete ball. Utilizing the production tool of this invention to produce the baseballs and softballs, whereby PU is brushed onto, and penetrates into the fiber material layer on the independently formed spherical core, resulting in the ball cover forming, the ball cover and spherical core attaches and fits firmly, and the porous construction of this fiber material layer attracts air, and therefore greatly avoids bubbles forming when the outer cover is formed, which affects the quality and lifespan of the ball.

  • Patent number: 8535470
Abstract: A mold for shaping a baseball or softball is constructed from two identical figure of 8 shaped mold pieces which correspond to an outside shape of a ball. The two mold pieces are made from flexible materials such as rubber, silicone or plastic resin, fit onto each other to form the outside shape of the ball. Joining areas of the two mold pieces have joining edges, and on inside sides of the joining edges on interior surfaces of the two mold pieces grooves are set which form a raised sewn section on a surface of the ball cover, and a material inlet and air outlet are formed where the two mold pieces join.

  • Publication number: 20130210565
Abstract: A cover method for baseballs or softballs, whereby a spherical core is independently formed and a fiber material layer is attached, this fiber material layer is evenly brushed with a thin layer of PU, and this spherical core is then placed in a mold, and PU is injected into the mold to cover the spherical core and heated, finally the mold is removed to reveal the complete ball. Utilizing this method and mold to produce the ball covers for baseballs and softballs, whereby PU is brushed onto, and penetrates into, the fiber material layer on the independently formed spherical core, so that when the ball cover forms, the ball cover and spherical core attaches and fits firmly, and the porous construction of this fiber material cover attracts air, and therefore greatly avoids bubbles forming when the ball cover is formed which affects the quality and lifespan of the balls.

  • Publication number: 20130196067
Abstract: A molded game ball and process for making the same. The game ball comprises a molded outer cover having a mold line that mimics the seam of a conventional game ball and a raised stitch pattern presented along said mold line. The game ball is made by forming an outer cover in a mold that has a pattern that is positioned to mimic the inverse of the pattern of a seam of a conventional game ball. Material is then injected into an interior volume enclosed by the outer cover to form an inner core that permanently bonds with the outer cover. The outer cover of the game ball has a stitch pattern that mimics the stitching and seam of a conventional stitched game ball.

  • Patent number: 8342832
Abstract: A ball cover shaping mold of a baseball or softball is constructed from two corresponding figure of 8 shaped mold pieces. These two mold pieces fit together to form a mold of the outside of the ball cover of a softball or baseball, and these two mold pieces are constructed from a soft material. Where these two mold pieces join are the seams, and on the inside side of the seams, grooves are set to form the raised sewn section on the ball cover, and an material inlet and an air outlet is situated where these two pieces join. PU material is used in the mold to construct the ball cover. The soft mold pieces are easy to remove and moreover, the grooves set on the inside seams of the figure of 8 shaped mold pieces form the raised sewn section on the outside of the ball cover where the two mold pieces join, thereby fulfilling the required outside appearance of the ball.

  • Publication number: 20120241080
Abstract: A kind of baseball and softball shaping mold and shaping method thereof, firstly according to the outside shape of the ball, two figure of 8 shaped soft pieces are manufactured and fit together to make a mold cavity, and on the inside sides along where the two soft pieces join, grooves are set which forms the raised sewn section which appears on the surface of the softball or baseball. An inlet is set where the seams of two soft pieces join, and fluid PU material is poured into the center of the cavity through the inlet, partially filling the cavity. Thereafter the inlet is plugged, and the mold is shaken to allow the PU material to be evenly distributed and harden on the inside walls of the cavity, which forms the ball cover of the ball, and at the same time, an accommodating space for the ball core is formed in the cavity of the ball cover.
