  • Patent number: 5044559
Abstract: An atomizer having a central gas discharge conduit (112) and an annular, coaxial liquid conduit (120) includes a surrounding, annular liquid discharge opening (122) disposed immediately downstream of the gas discharge opening (116). A sized outlet orifice (131) is provided for discharging the comingled gas and liquid from the nozzle, with the orifice area (131) being sized no greater than the gas discharge opening (116).

  • Patent number: 4941617
Abstract: An airblast type fuel nozzle of the type utilized in gas turbine engines is disclosed. Various concepts capable of enhancing the atomization of over a wide range of fuel flow rates are discussed. In one particular embodiment a recirculating air flow pattern at low fuel flow rates is established within a swirl chamber prior to the discharge of the fuel into the core airstream.

  • Patent number: 4419863
Abstract: Apparatus for mixing fuel and air for combustion in a gas turbine engine is disclosed. Various construction details capable of reducing pollutant emissions in the engine exhaust are discussed. In detailed form scoops 20 at the upstream end of the combustion chamber 12 provide uniform flow about the fuel nozzles. Deflectors 26 downstream of the fuel nozzles collimate the scooped air to aerodynamically confine the mixing fuel and air. Premature spreading of the fuel and air before nearly homogeneous fuel-air ratios are achieved is inhibited.

  • Patent number: 4251601
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a method of generating electrical current in a controlled fashion from ionically conductive fuels such as hydrazine based fuels by bringing the fuel up to its dissociation temperature between two electrodes of dissimilar material which are initially thermally energized by dissociating the fuel by contact with a decomposition catalyst. The electrical current produced is extracted from the system by means of electrical leads connected to the electrodes. Apparatus comprising a fuel source conduit, a porous membrane for dispersing the fuel, metal screen electrodes, and a fuel decomposition catalyst are also described.
