Upon identification that a software product desired is not indexed in the installation server database of the distribution server, then adding the software product to the distribution server. The distribution server maintains multiple products, every product components of the multiple products is indexed by the installation server database of the distribution server. Removal of a software product requires removal of the software product from the index maintained by the installation server database of the distribution server.

The installation tool may read and display information associated with the found products and/or product components. Such information may include installed, uninstalled, update available, version number, etc. Via a user interface, a user may select and/or deselect products and product components desired for installation, uninstallation, and/or updating. All of the users selections/deselections may be effected in an essentially simultaneous manner.

Abstract: A system and method for displaying data involves loading at least one database for each product of a plurality of products each product having a globally unique identifier and a respective product tree which includes a listing of contents. The listing of contents may be displayed and manipulated by a user in a style and manner that the user wishes to see in the user interface for product and/or package selection. The system and method may also involve preparing a respective user interface tree from each respective product tree.
