Abstract: A method of pretreating dried automotive paint powder for use in a sealant or adhesive composition is provided. The method includes heating the automotive paint powder to a temperature between about 150° F. to 400° F. (about 65° C. to 204° C.) to reduce volatile compounds in the powder. The paint powder may then be added to a sealant or adhesive composition which is heated during its manufacture and use without the release of hazardous gases into the manufacturing environment.

Abstract: A self-adhesive vibration damping tape for adhering to a substrate is provided. The tape is formed from a vibration damping composition comprising a synthetic rubber polymer, a thermoplastic polymer, a plasticizer, and an organic filler comprised of recycled automotive paint powder. The composition is preferably formed into a tape which includes a release liner on one surface and an aluminum foil facing on the other surface. In use, the tape is adhered on one surface to a substrate such as an automotive or appliance part to provide vibration damping properties as well as seal out the infiltration of air, dust and moisture.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method of coating a surface using a primer that increases the adhesion between an after-applied coating and the surface. In particular, this invention relates to a primer composition to improve the adhesion between common building materials and water based coatings.
