    Abstract: Improved paper sizing is obtained by using water soluble salts of substitutes succinic acid having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R' is essentially hydrocarbon group of the formula ##STR2## wherein R is hydrogen or alkyl, at least two R groups being alkyl, and the total number of carbon atoms in R' is from 16 to about 26.
