Abstract: A self-closing filler cap (1) is provided for a fuel tank filler neck, wherein the neck includes a restrictive flap hinged thereto, the filler cap comprising a closure ring (2) for detachable mounting on the filler neck and a closure flap assembly (3) rotatively arranged on the closure ring (2), said closure flap assembly (3) comprising an annular member (12) and a closure flap (15) hinged thereto and a locking ratchet mechanism including at least one detent spring (18) and lugs (7) such that the closure flap assembly (3) is rotatable in one direction only wherein the at least one detent spring (18) and the lugs (7) are provided on the annular member (12) and the closure ring (2) respectively.

Abstract: A self-closing cap for the fuel filler neck of a vehicle is provided which is particularly adapted for use with an automatic gas filling machine. The cap comprises a closure ring having an annular body and screw threads or bayonet lugs for detachably mounting the periphery of the annular body around the open end of the filler neck, and a closure flap assembly formed from a circular member with a nozzle receiving opening, a closure flap spring biased over the opening, and a pivotal mounting connecting the flap over the opening. The closure flap assembly includes a locking ratchet mechanism for securing the circular member over the closure ring in a selected angular position such that the pivotal mounting is substantially 180.degree. opposite from the pivotal connection of the restrictive flap within a filler neck of a vehicle to allow a fuel nozzle from an automatic gas filling machine to be smoothly inserted into and withdrawn from the self-closing cap.

Abstract: A self-closing cap for the filler neck of an oil pan is provided which allows the oil pan of an engine to be filled without the necessity of removing the cap. The cap comprises a lower body having a flat inner bottom surface with a passage in it, and a spring-loaded closing plate that likewise includes an opening. The closing plate is slidably movable over the flat inner bottom surface o the lower body against the force of the spring by means of a handle such that its opening is alignable with the opening in the bottom surface of the lower body to form an oil receiving passage.

Abstract: A self-closing cap for the filler neck of liquid containers, comprising a closure ring having an annular seal, said ring being attachable to said filler neck and having an orifice for receiving a nozzle that discharges a pressurized stream of liquid into the container, and of a spring-biased closure flap swivel-mounted on said closure ring and provided with a seal, wherein the improvement is the provision of a gasket around the orifice for preventing atomized liquid from said nozzle from being back-blown out of the orifice and onto the hand of the person handling the nozzle.

Abstract: An improved mounting system for securely attaching a piece of arcuate trim around a vehicle fender is disclosed herein. Such vehicle fenders have an inner edge that terminates in an upwardly directed flange, while the vehicle trim has a mounting flange nestable over the fender flange which further includes a plurality of elongated slots. The mounting system comprises a U-shaped strip of resiliently deformable metal whose opposing sides define a U-shaped recess for receiving the upwardly directed flange of the fender, as well as a fastener assembly for fastening the mounting flange of the trim to the clamping member that includes a threaded stud, one end of which is connected to a first side of the U-shaped strip of metal forming the clamping member. When the free end of the stud is inserted through one of the slots in the trim, and a nut is threadedly engaged to the stud, the mounting flange of the trim is secured to the clamping member.

Abstract: A self-closing cap for the filler neck of liquid containers, consisting of a closure ring having an annular seal, said ring being attachable to said filler neck, and of a spring-biased closure flap swivel-mounted on said closure ring and provided with a seal, wherein said closure flap is swivel-mounted with two bearing arms to a shaft supported by a bearing block inserted in a recess on the housing ring and wherein a locking spring seated on said shaft of said bearing block biases said closure flap, with one on end of said spring engaging said closure flap or a bearing arm and the other end engaging said bearing block.
