  • Patent number: 10077192
Abstract: Production of highly pure comminuted polycrystalline silicon from polycrystalline silicon rods produced by the Siemens process is facilitated by removal of graphite residues from the electrode ends of the rods by removing the contaminated end portions by means of mechanical impulses.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 16, 2015
Date of Patent: September 18, 2018
    Assignee: WACKER CHEMIE AG
Inventors: Stefan Faerber, Andreas Bergmann, Reiner Pech, Siegfried Riess
  • Patent number: 9586210
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for comminuting a polycrystalline silicon rod, which apparatus includes a base, at least one movable comminuting tool and optionally at least one immovable anvil. A silicon rod to be comminuted lies on a longitudinal axis oriented parallel or virtually parallel to the surface of the base and can be adjusted between the comminuting tool and anvil. Also disclosed is a method for comminuting a polycrystalline silicon rod.

  • Publication number: 20160325945
Abstract: A gripping device for the capturing, transporting, and placing of polysilicon rods has an electrically operated rod gripping mechanism actuated by a frame with a parallelogram structure, and two gripping segments engageable with a vertical latch element which engages upon closure and automatically unlatches in an open position. The gripping device reliably extracts and transports polysilicon rods of diverse cross-sections with minimal contamination.
