  • Patent number: 6367322
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for determining, in dependence on the driving situation, the sensitivity of the triggering of an automatic braking operation for a motor vehicle in which an automatic braking operation is triggered during a braking maneuver when the speed of actuation of the brake pedal exceeds a predetermined threshold value. The automatic braking operation consists of the production of a brake pressure higher than that corresponding to the position of the brake pedal. The sensitivity of the triggering of the automatic braking operation is adapted to the driving situation existing at the moment of the braking operation in question, and permits better differentiation between emergency braking and target braking. Variation of the sensitivity of the triggering in dependence on the nature, or the occurrence in terms of time, of the actuation of the pedal by the driver is provided by taking into account only the braking manoeuvre in question and/or the pedal actuations preceding this braking maneuver.

  • Patent number: 6097314
Abstract: In a process and apparatus for indicating and implementing control interventions for parking a motor vehicle, a prospective parking space is measured, and the indicating and the implementation of the control interventions does not take place before a confirmation signal for the start of the parking operation is entered by a vehicle operator. The system for carrying out the process has control devices for displaying and implementing the control interventions for parking a motor vehicle as a function of the confirmation signal.

  • Patent number: 6086168
Abstract: A method operates a motor vehicle such as an off-road vehicle with a brake system in which wheels on the same axle can be braked independently of one another. Vehicle-movement-stabilizing braking interventions are performed automatically by the brake system. For at least one vehicle-movement dynamics characteristic variable which is indicative of the tendency of the vehicle to tilt about the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, an associated tilting-prevention threshold value is prescribed. The respective characteristic-variable instantaneous value is continuously acquired and compared with the tilting-prevention threshold value. The wheels which are on the outside during cornering are, for the purpose of preventing tilting, braked as soon as an associated characteristic-variable instantaneous value exceeds the associated tilting-prevention threshold value.

  • Patent number: 5979619
Abstract: A method for preventing unwanted rolling away of a stationary vehicle maintains a brake pressure in wheel brake cylinders. The brake pressure is maintained in dependence on the actuation of the brake pedal, and is maintained only if the current brake pressure exceeds a brake pressure corresponding to the holding pressure by a certain amount. This brake pressure can be applied at will by the driver.

  • Patent number: 5975648
Abstract: A motor vehicle is prevented from being parked with an unactivated parking brake. This vehicle has a roll-away preventer normally to apply a brake pressure which prevents the motor vehicle from rolling. To prevent unintentional rolling of the vehicle upon failure of the roll-away preventer, deactivation of the drive engine by using the ignition key is prevented when a brake pressure is not present to prevent the motor vehicle from rolling.

  • Patent number: 5720532
Abstract: A procedure is provided to end an automatic braking operation such that unwanted ending of the automatic braking operation is prevented. If a switching operation of the switching element takes place within a predetermined time interval after the triggering of the automatic braking operation, the automatic braking operation is not automatically ended. The system monitors whether another switching operation takes place within the time interval. The other switching operation is the reverse of the first switching operation. If another switching operation takes place during the time interval, a second relative motion between the push rod and the component which can be moved within a defined motional play has taken place in this time period. Since the brake pedal is continuing to be actuated, the automatic braking operation is not then ended.

  • Patent number: 5669676
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the start of an automatic braking process. In those instances where the brake pedal is actuated starting from an initially unactuated position, triggering of automatic braking occurs when the actuation speed of the brake pedal remains above a threshold trigger value for automatic braking, and a prescribed pedal travel is exceeded in a specific time interval after the start of the actuation of the brake pedal. Light depression of the brake pedal which takes place only briefly at a high pedal actuation speed does not lead to the automatic braking process being triggered.

  • Patent number: 5564797
Abstract: A method is provided for determining the start and the end of an automatic braking process to optimize the triggering of the automatic braking process. When a set value is exceeded, an automatic braking process is triggered. The threshold value is changed as a function of the driving state, in particular, as a function of the speed of the vehicle when the brake pedal is actuated, and independently thereof, as a function of the position of the brake pedal. In addition, various criteria terminate the automatic braking process as a function of the actuation force of the brake pedal, of the speed of the vehicle and of the pedal travel.

  • Patent number: 5549369
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for carrying out an automatic braking process for motor vehicles with an anti-lock brake system. An automatic braking process is triggered when it is detected by the anti-lock brake system that at least one wheel of an axle of the vehicle reaches the locking limit. The brake pressure for the axle of this wheel starts to be controlled by the anti-lock brake system. However, a further increase in brake pressure at the wheels of the other axles of the vehicle is possible since, because of the load distribution of the vehicle and because of the distribution of braking force, the locking limit of the said wheels is not yet reached. According to the invention, a further increase in the brake pressure at the other axles takes place during the automatic braking process.

  • Patent number: 5535123
Abstract: A method is disclosed for controlling the triggering sensitivity of an automatic braking process for a motor vehicle based on the driving behavior of an individual driver. A predetermined fixed threshold value of the actuation speed of the brake pedal is multiplied by a driver-dependent factor which is determined after each braking process, as a function of the actuation speed and of the pedal travel of the brake pedal, to generate a driver-dependent threshold for actuation of automatic braking.

  • Patent number: 5499866
Abstract: A device monitors an automatic braking process by using a fault-detecting, operational testing method which takes place via an automatic braking process lasting only briefly, typically about 50 ms. The method is initiated by a test control device and can take place during different vehicle states.

  • Patent number: 5492397
Abstract: A method for terminating an automatic braking process improves an automatic braking process by assuring that reliable termination of the braking process always takes place. Breaking-off criteria, which are independent of the actuation force of the brake pedal, are provided for the automatic braking process. The variables relating to the dynamics of vehicle movement or the activation time of the automatic braking process, if appropriate also as a function of variables relating to dynamics of vehicle movement, are used as the breaking-off criteria. Thus, automatic braking process is terminated as a function of vehicle behavior. In addition, the gradient of the braking pressure is determined as a function of the activation time and/or as a function of the switch-off criteria when the automatic braking process is terminated.

  • Patent number: 5445444
Abstract: A method and apparatus for carrying out an automatic braking procedure to further reduce the braking distance required for a braking operation. The brake pressure produced during the performance of the automatic braking procedure is increased at each axle until the ABS detects the reaching of the locking limit of at least one wheel of the respective axle. A further reduction in the braking distance is thus achieved by not only increasing the brake pressure to such an extent that one wheel of the vehicle reaches the locking limit but by increasing the brake pressure of the individual axles until at least one wheel of the respective axle reaches the locking limit. The maximum force transmission between the wheel and the roadway is thus obtained at each axle.
