    Abstract: Curable mixtures of(a) maleimides of the general formula I ##STR1## wherein R is an n-valent aliphatic or aromatic radical, and n is the number 1, 2 or 3; and(b) mono- or polyvalent phenols which contain in the molecule at least one 1-propenyl group in the ortho- or para-position with respect to the hydroxyl group, or isomeric mixtures of mono- or polyvalent phenols which are propenyl-substituted in the ortho- or para-position and mono- or polyvalent phenols which are allyl-substituted in the ortho- or para-position, the proportion of propenyl groups in the isomeric mixture having to be at least 5 equivalent-%, relative to the sum of the equivalents of propenyl and allyl groups.The novel mixtures cure at elevated temperatures relatively rapidly, and produce molded materials having valuable mechanical properties.

    Abstract: The Si-modified bis-phthalic acid derivatives according to the invention are monomeric, oligomeric or polymeric compounds. An example of a monomeric compound of the invention is the amidoacid of the formula ##STR1## which is formed by reacting 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane and 4-N,N'-bis-[3-tri-n-propoxy)-silyl-propyl]-aminophthalic anhydride in solution, in a molar ratio of 1:2. To produce oligomeric or polymeric compounds, the reaction has to be carried out with a 3rd component, for example pyromellitic dianhydride.The products are used as adhesion promoters, for example between inorganic solids and organic resins.

They may also be used for the preparation of other Si-modified adhesion promoters, and as curing agents for epoxide resins.

A typical example is 3-dimethylmaleimidyl-phthalic acid N-(di-n-propoxymethylsilyl)propylimide, which is obtained by reacting 3-dimethylmaleimidyl-phthalic acid N-allylimide and di-n-propoxymethylsilane in solution, followed by cyclization. The products are used as adhesion promoters, for example between inorganic solids and organic resins.
