  • Patent number: 5427163
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for cutting squared timber into a number of thin boards. Individual boards 32 are cut off by a blade 30 from the squared timber in each of the successive cutting machines 14a-g, essentially in longitudinal direction of the squared timber. The thickness of the squared timber 26 is selected in such a way that, once an integral number of boards having a predetermined thickness are cut off, a residual board remains which is reduced to the same thickness d as the boards 32 by shaving. The shaving preferably takes place by placing a planer 18 after the last cutting machine 14g. The installation 10 is equipped with a material feed 12 and a conveying system 20 for removing the cut boards, the cutting machines and the planer are also connected to one another by conveying devices 16, 24.

  • Patent number: 5417262
Abstract: A device for cutting thin boards from cants includes a blade set in the device which is fastened to a blade holder which is mounted on a blade support. The blade support can be installed as an interchangeable component in a cutting table and clamped in the table in an exact position. A transfer apparatus, constructed as a rotating table, is alignable with the cutting device. By means of the transfer apparatus, the blade support can be removed from cutting device. The transfer apparatus can be movable or in a fixed position. Receiving surfaces for blade supports can be integrated into the transfer apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5400843
Abstract: Sheets of wood are cut from a timber piece along a guide and against a cung blade. A transverse taper of the wood piece is measured as the wood piece is conveyed. In accordance with changes in the measured transverse taper, the guide or the blade is pivoted about an axis extending perpendicular to the blade edge as the wood piece is being conveyed. Also, the longitudinal taper of the wood piece can be measured as the wood piece is conveyed. In accordance with the changes in the measured longitudinal taper, the distance between the blade edge and the wood guide is varied as the wood piece is conveyed.

  • Patent number: 5390716
Abstract: A machine is described for the slicing removal of a board from a cant adved longitudinally past a blade and pressed, from the side opposite from the blade, by means of a pressing device against the blade and a counterpressure rail mounted in front of the blade. In contrast to conventional constructions, in which driven feed rollers for the cant are located before and beyond the actual slicing device, driven roller pairs are provided directly in the region over which the blade, which forms a very acute angle with the feed direction, extends. The feed roller pairs are moreover floatingly journaled so that they do not affect the position of the cant. By the novel arrangement, an overly lengthy force transmission path through the cant itself from the feed rollers to the blade is avoided.

  • Patent number: 5318083
Abstract: An apparatus for severing thin boards from squared timber includes a guide urface upon which a squared timber is conveyed and pressed against a cutting edge of a blade, as well as a counter pressing edge. The adjustment of the distance between the guide surface and a plane parallel thereto which extends through the blade cutting edge (i.e., the thickness of the thin board to be cut) is effected by relative adjustment of the blade cutting edge to the guide surface in an inclined plane which forms an acute adjustment angle .alpha. with a line normal to the guide surface. Because of the relative adjustment of the blade cutting edge to the guide surface along the angle .alpha., when a different board thickness is desired, the distance between the blade cutting edge and the counter pressing edge in the cutting direction is automatically adapted. In a preferred embodiment of the apparatus, the width of an exit guide channel for the severed thin boards can also be simultaneously set to the desired board thickness.

  • Patent number: 5291927
Abstract: An apparatus for truing twisted wooden boards by twisting them in an oppoe direction, comprises an upper set of parallel plates and a lower set of parallel plates. A channel is formed between opposing edges of the upper and lower plates. The upper plates are pivotable about an upper pivot axis, and the lower plates are pivotable about a lower axis. Those axes are oriented transversely relative to a longitudinal axis of the channel and are situated at an inlet end of the channel. A pivoting mechanism causes the plates to be displaced vertically relative to one another to twist the channel about its longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 5255725
Abstract: Wooden boards which are deformably twisted about their longitudinal axes straightened by being passed through a path that is twisted in a direction opposite that of the boards. The degree of twist of the boards is automatically adjusted as a function of the humidity of the boards and possibly also as a function of the temperature of the boards.

  • Patent number: 4825917
Abstract: An apparatus for producing thin boards by chipless cutting of the boards from a log or a squared timber on one or both opposing sides of the timber where the apparatus includes a support means for the article being cut and a cutter station which is arranged in at least one side of the support and including a cutter blade engageable with the squared timber. A pressure applying means is located on the other side of the squared timber opposite from the cutter station to urge the squared timber against the cutter station at an adjustable pressure. A feed system is arranged to move the squared timber toward the cutter blade, and includes at least one pair of feed rollers which are floatingly supported in a direction transverse to the support. The rollers are arranged to adapt to the position of the squared timber developed by the contact pressure at the contact station while maintaining symmetrical clamping forces.

  • Patent number: 4801002
Abstract: A conveying apparatus for conveying tree trunks through a measuring device is disclosed in which the conveying apparatus comprises at least one transport chain and a plurality of drivers for receiving the tree trunks which are driven by the chain and slide on a guide track. A reliable supporting of the tree trunks on the drivers during transport through the measuring device is achieved which also prevents tilting of the tree trunks by providing drivers which are spaced apart in the conveying direction of the chain. Additionally, the engaging faces of the drivers are designed for receiving the tree trunks and extend perpendicularly to the conveying direction of the chain and are inclined where at least two drivers have oppositely extending inclines in the conveying region.

  • Patent number: 4503892
Abstract: In a device for producing flat boards separated from a square timber trunk by blades in a non-cutting manner a straightening device is provided for each blade. Each straightening device includes an adjustable bending roll mounted at one side of the board separated from the trunk in a curved state and a rotatable flexible element which forms at the side of the board opposite to the bending roll a continuous flexible pressure surface upon rotation of the flexible element.

  • Patent number: 4501178
Abstract: A device for severing round timber includes a rotatable circular saw and a transversal feeding device feeding round timber pieces towards the saw and for feeding cut sections of the timber from the saw towards the discharge end of the device. The feeding device includes a number of rotary conveying chains arranged in groups in the feeding direction at one side of the saw and at the opposite side of the saw. The conveying chains of two groups extend in the feeding direction such that they include an acute angle with each other and diverge from one another whereby timber sections cut off by the saw tend to move away from each other and, after being cut off, do not contact the saw teeth in the area of the saw blade.
