  • Patent number: 5309607
Abstract: A hose clip which comprises a flexible strap adapted to be placed around a selected portion of a hose and to be tightened around such selected portion by turning a bolt or screw. An elongated concavo-convex strip-shaped resilient insert is adjacent a portion of the internal surface and extends in the circumferential direction of the strap opposite the mechanism which serves to increase or reduce the effective length of the strap. The convex external surface of the insert is biased in a direction away from the adjacent portion of the internal surface of the strap by one or more springs which are disposed between the insert and the strap and are of one piece with the insert. At least one end of the insert is slidable along the strap. The spring or springs ensure that the strap does not become loose as a result of aging of the material of the adjacent portion of the hose.

  • Patent number: 4898407
Abstract: A pipe coupling wherein a one-piece or composite tubular housing has at least one axially parallel slot and its end portions confine annuli of teeth which must penetrate into the ends of the respective pipes to hold the pipes against axial movement relative to each other. In order to ensure that all teeth of each annulus of teeth will penetrate into the peripheral surfaces of the respective pipes when the width of the slot or slots in the housing is reduced, at least those teeth which are adjacent the slot or slots have longer flanks which are nearer to and shorter flanks which are more distant from the respective slot or slots. This reduces the likelihood that teeth which are adjacent the slot or slots would plush the material of the pipes toward the coresponding slot or slots during a narrowing of the slot or slots for the purpose of applying the coupling around the ends of pipes.

  • Patent number: 4842306
Abstract: The non-profiled end portions of two pipes can be coupled to each other by a ring-shaped band which has at least one axially parallel gap and circumferentially extending corrugations defining two outer chambers and at least one median chamber. Each chamber is open toward the peripheries of the pipes and each outer chamber surrounds a different pipe. Such outer chambers contain arcuate safety devices with radially innermost portions in the form of claws serving to penetrate into the material of the respective pipes when the band is tightened around the end portions of the pipes by a clamping unit which is designed to reduce the width of the gap. The median chamber of the band confines a deformable annular insert which has marginal sealing lips and serves to establish a seal between the internal surface of the band and the peripheral surfaces of end portions of the pipes when the clamping unit is actuated to reduce the diameter of the band.

  • Patent number: 4819974
Abstract: A pipe coupling wherein a composite housing surrounds the objects or parts to be coupled with one another. The housing confines two annular gripping members, one for each part and each having a trapeziform cross-sectional outline with two oppositely inclined legs flanking an annular web which can be biased toward the respective part by a set of screws mating with the housing. The radially innermost portions of the legs have teeth which penetrate into the material of the respective parts to hold the parts against axial movement relative to each other. Each gripping member can be received in a discrete groove which has a trapeziform cross-sectional outline and is bounded in part by two oppositely inclined flanks whose inclination with reference to the axis of the housing is more pronounced than the inclination of the legs on the gripping members. The teeth of the legs of the gripping members are immediately adjacent the respective flanks.

  • Patent number: 4729582
Abstract: A coupling for the plain ends of two pipes has a tubular housing with two flange-like end portions which extend radially inwardly toward the ends of the respective pipes. The housing contains two sets of externally toothed blocking elements each of which has an oval outline and is compelled to roll in the axial direction of the pipes when at least one of the pipes is moved axially and away from the other pipe. Each set surrounds one of the pipes and the blocking elements are rotatable on the respective end portions of the housing or on annular carriers in the housing. The blocking elements of each set can rotate relative to each other and their teeth penetrate into the housing and/or into the respective pipes in response to movement of one of the pipes away from the other pipe.
