  • Process for the manufacture of octafluoropropane

    Abstract: Octafluoropropane, C.sub.3 F.sub.8, is prepared by a two-step process. In the first step hexafluoropropene is reacted with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a chromium oxyfluoride catalyst. The 2H-heptafluoropropane obtained is reacted with fluorine in the presence of a catalyst which contains a subgroup element of the Periodic System as a free metal or as a fluoride. Octafluoropropane is isolated from the resulting gas mixture. Hydrogen fluoride also obtained may be recycled to the first reaction step.

  • Process for reactivating fluorination catalysts
    Patent number: 4145311
    Abstract: Chromoxyfluoride catalysts which are used for converting chlorocarbons with hydrogen fluoride into fluorochlorocarbons lose a part of their activity over a period of time. Reactivation of the catalysts occurs upon treatment with fluorine at temperatures of from 70 to 300.degree. C.
