  • Patent number: 8867801
Abstract: A method and a system for determining properties of a vessel in a medical image are provided. The method involves displaying the medical image including the vessel. The displayed vessel is segmented and indicated in the medical image. For an indicated vessel, a maximum curvature along a length of the vessel is determined as the property of the vessel. Another vessel parameter which can be determined is the smallest diameter along the length of the vessel.

  • Patent number: 8811693
Abstract: A method and a system for indicating a feeding vessel of a malformation in a medical image are provided. The method first displays the medical image of the malformation and its surrounding vessels. This enables a manual selects a portion of the displayed medical image with reference to the tumor. The feeding vessel of the tumor is segmented and finally indicated in the medical image based on said manual selection.

  • Patent number: 8738115
Abstract: In a method and system for planning and implementing a selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT), the liver volume and the tumor volume are automatically calculated in a processor by analysis of items segmented from images obtained from the patient using one or more imaging modalities, with the administration of a contrast agent. The volume of therapeutic agent that is necessary to treat the tumor is automatically calculated from the liver volume, the tumor volume, and the body surface area of the patient and the lung shunt percentage for the patient. The therapeutic agent can be administered via respective feeder vessels in respectively different amounts that correspond to the percentage of blood supply to the tumor from the respective feeder vessels, this distribution also being automatically calculated by analysis of one or more parenchymal blood volume (PBV) images.

  • Publication number: 20120283556
Abstract: A method for assisting optimum positioning of an occlusion site in a blood vessel in a tumor embolization is provided. Tumors are cut off from the blood supply by the embolization which is an artificial occlusion of blood vessels. The vessels around the tumor and at the same time the planned site for occlusion are firstly determined. A path from the access to the vessels can be determined based on image recognition, and with the aid of this path the site for occlusion can then be optimally determined. A computer system assists the doctor carrying out the treatment by a suitable display.

  • Publication number: 20120014577
Abstract: A method for indicating a feeding vessel of a malformation is presented. The method includes accessing a medical image with the malformation and segmenting the malformation in the medical image. Further, the method includes detecting the feeding vessel of the malformation and acquiring a live image, thereafter the method involves displaying the live image overlaid with the medical image as a displayed image and indicating the feeding vessel in the displayed image.

In the processor, the volume of therapeutic agent that is necessary to treat the tumor is automatically calculated from the liver volume, the tumor volume, and the body surface area of the patient and the lung shunt percentage for the patient. The segmented tumor, as well as segmented feeder vessels are overlaid on a live fluoroscopic image of the patient during SIRT, to assist in positioning a catheter for administering the therapeutic agent, which is then administered according to the calculated volume.

  • Publication number: 20100054568
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for selecting a volume of interest in one or more digitized images. A geometric structure in the digitized image for selecting a volume of interest is defined. A segmentation of the volume of interest in the digitized image is performed and visualized. The invention further relates to an apparatus, in particular a computer for performing the methods and a computer storage device comprising machine readable and executable program instructions which comprise steps of performing the methods. The invention can be applied for modern imaging developments, such as Computed Tomography, Angiography, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging which have made possible the acquisition of volumes where a volume of interest, e.g. the whole blood vessel tree, can be accurately visualized.
