    Abstract: Polysaccharide graft polymers are prepared by semi-continuous reverse-phase suspension polymerization, partial dewatering and crosslinking, wherein during and after the suspension polymerization, in which an aqueous solution of an at least partially neutralized, olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid is added to a suspension of a polysaccharide in a nonpolar organic solvent, the viscosity is reduced by adding amphoteric ammonium compounds or quaternary imidazolinium salts to the reaction medium.
