  • Patent number: 5931073
Abstract: A radial arm saw apparatus is provided with a bevel angle adjustment used in combination with a miter angle adjustment. The saw motor is mounted on a rigid vertical mounting plate. The mounting plate is tiltably supported on a rigid vertical support panel that is connected to the translatory radial arm mechanism so that the motor tilt or bevel angle is adjustable. The connection between the mounting plate and the support panel includes an elongate linkage arm pivotally connected at one end to the mounting plate and at another end to the support panel. A horizontal guide pin fixed to the mounting plate extends through a curvilinear guide slot in the panel to operate in cooperation with the linkage arm to always maintain the bottom horizontal tangent of the saw blade in a common vertical plane regardless of the tilt or bevel angle of the motor. An automatic mechanism for maintaining the tangent at a preset elevation regardless of bevel angle is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5438899
Abstract: A material-working tool control system includes a tool support and a guide linkage for controlling the position and motion of a tool or tool mounting platform. The tool mount extends substantially horizontally and parallel to an underlying work surface and permits motion of the tool platform to and from a vertical axis of rotation to which the mount is connected. Similarly, the guide linkage extends from the tool mount to another vertical axis of rotation in a substantially vertical plane, transverse to the underlying work surface. The tool support bears substantially all the vertical loads of the system, thereby relieving the guide linkage of this weight-bearing function.

  • Patent number: 5265510
Abstract: A material-working and tool control system for use with a workbench includes a system platform in rotatable, co-planar communication with the workbench. Further included is a tool-carrying platform. Also provided are first and second protractor assemblies, each having first and second legs which are adjustably hinged to each other. An opposite end of the first leg is in pivotal communication with the workbench surface through an axis-of-rotation normal to the workbench, and an opposite end of the second leg of the first protractor assembly is in pivotal communication with the tool-carrying platform through an axis-of-rotation also normal to the workbench. A plane is defined by the hinged relationship between the legs of the first protractor assembly which plane is normal to a plane defined by the hinged relationship between the legs of the second protractor assembly.

  • Patent number: 4384633
Abstract: An improved acoustic transport member for use in a keyboard having key operated strikers individually actuatable for inducing acoustic energy in the form of sound waves which propagate through the member from selected inducing positions therealong. A first portion of the member is fabricated in the form of a series of tabs to provide discrete impact positions for generating sound waves in response to impact actuation of related strikers. A second portion integrally connected with the first portion links all of the tabs and functions as a sound corridor for receiving and transporting all sound waves generated as a result of the selected striker impacting its related tab. An aperture is provided through the tabs. A peripheral rim of the aperture provides sound reflecting boundaries that define sound passages on the tabs for directing the sound waves in different directions in communicating the sound waves from the tabs into the corridor.

  • Patent number: 4340830
Abstract: Apparatus and a method are disclosed for assembling an electric motor in which a unitary housing includes a base section having integral upright end walls. Each end wall is provided with a circular opening which openings are in coaxial alignment. A curable epoxy compound coats the surfaces of the base section and/or end walls for bonding a stator assembly within the unitary housing. The stator assembly is provided with a central bore which is axially aligned with the circular openings by having an alignment pin extending therethrough while the epoxy is in a pliable state. The epoxy is then cured with the alignment pin in position. After curing the pin is removed. The stator is now rigidly attached to the housing with its bore and the openings precisely aligned along the common axis of the motor. A rotor subassembly is inserted lengthwise through the openings and the stator bore with its bearings located in a corresponding opening on the housing for rotatable free support of the rotor in the bore.

  • Patent number: 4002889
Abstract: A self-cleaning label is provided for use in an automatic object identification system. The label comprises a backing member having a plurality of fins attached to it. A strip of reflective material is affixed to the front surface of each fin for "reading" by the components of the system. The fins are aerodynamically designed so that the flow of air past the label carrying surface serves to clean the surface and prevent the settling of dirt thereon.
