  • Patent number: 10174606
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed toward a system and method to calibrate calipers of a downhole tool. Specifically, a calibration tool includes a substantially cylindrical calibration ring. The calibration tool also includes a finger coupled to the calibration ring. The finger is configured to engage with the downhole tool such that the calibration ring is mounted to the downhole tool and is coaxial with a tool axis of the downhole tool.

  • Patent number: 9275009
Abstract: Variable volume systems and methods of use thereof described herein are capable of making calibrated determinations of fluid properties and phase behavior of a fluid sample. The determinations can be calibrated based on one or more calibration functions, such as system volume corrected for pressure and temperature variations. Cross-checking the results of measurements can be used to determine accuracy of the calibration or monitor for leaks or other anomalies of the variable volume systems. The variable volume systems can be implemented in a well logging tool and are capable of being calibrated downhole.

  • Publication number: 20150361781
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for implementing sliders 44 in a downhole tool. The tool includes a pad 24c having a pad base 32 and a pad cover 34 substantially encompassing electronic components in the pad. The pad cover 34 and pad base 32 may be sealed, and sliders 44 may be used to reduce negative effects from relative movements between the pad base 32 and the pad cover 34. In some embodiments, the sliders 44 may be shaped and positioned to guide relative movements between the pad base 32 and pad cover 34, and the sliders 44 may reduce stresses on the pad base, pad cover, and/or the electronic components.

  • Publication number: 20150361744
Abstract: The techniques herein relate to a pressure compensation system. The system includes a downhole tool and one or more pressure compensators positionable in the downhole tool. Each pressure compensator includes a first compensating fluid section having a first compensating fluid, at least one second compensating fluid section having a second compensating fluid, and a convoluted membrane between the first and second fluids in the first and second compensating fluid sections, respectively. The first or second compensating fluid sections, or both, may include a porous disk positioned at a hole in the fluid section. The pressure compensator may also include a switch configured to indicate a fluid condition in the pressure compensator and a relief valve configured to release fluid from the pressure compensator.

  • Patent number: 8434357
Abstract: A system and method for obtaining a clean fluid sample for analysis in a downhole tool are provided. In one example, the method includes directing fluid from a main flowline of the downhole tool to a secondary flowline of the downhole tool. While the fluid is being directed into the secondary flowline, sensor responses corresponding to the fluid in the secondary flowline are monitored to determine when the sensor responses stabilize. The secondary flowline is isolated from the main flowline after the sensor responses have stabilized. A quality control procedure is performed on the fluid in the secondary flowline to determine whether the captured fluid is the same as the fluid in the main flowline. Additional fluid from the main flowline is allowed into the secondary flowline if the captured fluid is not the same.
