  • Patent number: 5216870
Abstract: A method and device for producing partable cartons for packets of cigarettes, each carton being defined by two separate boxes formed from two substantially similar blanks, each divided by bend lines into a first and second panel on either side of an intermediate connecting portion, and at least one of which panels presents a lid tab; the carton being produced by feeding the two blanks, one upside down in relation to the other, along respective paths; folding the two second panels perpendicularly arranging the two second panels one on top of the other; feeding respective rows of packets on to the two second panels; and folding the remaining portions of the two blanks about the respective rows of packets.

  • Patent number: 5193328
Abstract: A method and device for folding packing blanks along preformed bend lines, whereby a blank, before being positioned with its intermediate portion contacting the product, and folded in a U about the product with two lateral portions contacting the same, is engaged by two gripping and strain-relieving devices by which the two lateral portions are oscillated by a given angle about respective bend lines connecting the lateral portions to the opposite edges of the intermediate portion.

  • Patent number: 5177933
Abstract: A machine for wrapping substantially parallelepiped box elements, typically packs of cigarettes, comprises a push rod by which each box is directed against a respective wrapper of heat-sealable material, and directed together with the wrapper into a pocket, also folders by which the wrapper is closed into a tubular sheath around the box, and a heat-seal device by which the overlapping edges of the wrapper are secured to one another. The folding and heat-seal steps both take place while the box remains positioned in the pocket, with the folders and heat-seal device operating sequentially and in such a way that the overlapping extremities of the wrapper are secured before bring released by the folders, thereby ensuring that the wrapper remains taut.

  • Patent number: 5177446
Abstract: A sensing facility that is integrated into a station from which strip material is fed to a wrap station, and/or into the roll and shaft from which the strip is effectively uncoiled, is designed to monitor an electrical impedance generated by the roll and shaft and/or linked to their overall radial dimensions. An output signal is triggered when the monitored level of impedance matches a selected reference value.

  • Patent number: 5133173
Abstract: Packets of cigarettes are directly singly and in succession along a conveyor into a cellophane wrapping machine, and thereafter to a packaging machine which is driven, together with the wrapping machine, by one main motor and incorporates a feed unit supplying wrapper blanks, and a wrapping unit by which each blank is folded about a corresponding group of packets. In the event of an interruption in the supply of packets to the conveyor, the feed unit is decoupled automatically from the main motor and the wrapping unit then allowed to complete a further cycle in which a blank already gummed and positioned by the feed unit can be fashioned as usual into an outer wrapper around a relative group of packets before the main motor is finally shut off.

  • Patent number: 5085028
Abstract: The machine is designed to enfold substantially parallelepiped packs in transparent wrappers, and comprises an indexing wheel provided with radial pockets each designed to accommodate one pack together with its wrapper, which is folded to the point where the pack becomes completely enveloped save for an area of each end face perpendicular to the axis of the wheel. The pockets are enclosed laterally by corresponding pairs of tongues lying normal to the axis of rotation, and indexed through a station to which one longitudinal flank of the part-enveloped pack is engaged by a heat-seal device; the ends of the tongues farthest from the wheel axis carry reaction pads that operate in conjunction with the heated plate of the device, of which the length is substantially equal to the full width of the wrapper, both measured parallel with the axis of rotation of the wheel.

  • Patent number: 4951862
Abstract: The strip is pre-creased to show the front, rear, sides, top and bottom of the packet, and provided with through cuts which combine with certain of the creases to create two pairs of top and bottom corner reinforcement tongues incorporated into the margins of the strip from which the sides of the box and lid are fashioned, each tongue being parted transversely by a cut parallel to and offset from the fold between the front and bottom faces of the box, and the front and top of the lid. The length of the top and bottom faces, measured across the packet from side to side, is reduced from the width of the front and rear faces of the box and the lid, and the top and bottom edges of the outermost side flaps of the box and lid are also cut short so as to remain distanced from the relative corners when the packet is folded into its final shape.

  • Patent number: 4802394
Abstract: The notching device effects transverse cuts in strip wrapping material, and in particular, along the length of a continuous strip of transparent outer wrapping material incorporating a longitudinal tear-open ribbon, which is severed with each cut. Use is made of an incision roller fitted with at least one peripheral blade, and a pressure roller mounted rotatably to a shaft having two distinct, coaxial end sections that are carried by a support in such a way as to permit adjustment of their angular position; the shaft also has an intermediate section which is embodied skew in relation to the two end sections, and it is to this skew section that the pressure roller is mounted.
