  • Patent number: 4748219
Abstract: A reactor for carrying out polymerizations in systems with high concentration of polymer is constituted by a cylindrical body having vertical axis with upper and lower heads; in correspondence of a generatrix of the cylinder an opening with vertical-axis is provided, which puts the interior of the cylinder in communication with the body of an extruder, it too with vertical axis, and solid with the reactor.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 3, 1986
Date of Patent: May 31, 1988
    Assignee: Enichem Elastomeri S.p.A.
    Inventor: Silvano Gordini
  • Patent number: 4736001
Abstract: This invention concerns the production of 1,4-cis polybutadiene, or copolymers of butadiene with other related diolefins, through the catalytic polymerization or copolymerization of butadiene monomer by a continuous or discontinuous process carried out in the absence or substantial absence of solvents or diluents and operating in the presence of solid bodies.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 2, 1987
Date of Patent: April 5, 1988
    Assignee: Enichem Elastomeri, S.p.A.
Inventors: Antonio Carbonaro, Silvano Gordini, Salvatore Cucinella
  • Patent number: 4714747
Abstract: The invention relates to a continuous process for the manufacture of butyl rubber in which the monomers are polymerized using a halogenated polymerization medium in a self-cleaning screw extruder at a constant pressure under boiling plug-flow conditions by means of a modified aluminium halide catalyst which operates at high temperature (relative to prior art very low temperatures of e.g. -100.degree. C.). In contrast to prior art slurry processes, the polymerization mixture forms a sticky, highly viscous mass which is conveyed by screw action to the extruder outlet as polymerization proceeds. The butyl rubber product is separated at a high concentration from vapors of unreacted monomers and polymerization medium which are recycled.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 16, 1986
Date of Patent: December 22, 1987
    Assignee: Enichem Elastomeri S.p.A.

  • Patent number: 4710553
Abstract: This invention concerns the production of 1,4-cis polybutadiene or copolymers of butadiene with other related diolefins through the catalytic polymerization or copolymerization of butadiene monomer by a continuous or discontinuous process carried out in the absence or substantial absence of solvents or diluents, operating in two successive phases (the first at a T<30.degree. C. and the second at a T=or>30.degree. C.) by control of the molecular weights.

  • Patent number: 4699960
Abstract: The present invention relates to the production of 1,4-cis-polybutadiene and of copolymers of butadiene with other conjugated diolefins, by means of the catalytic polymerization or copolymerization of monomer butadiene, by an either continuous or batch process, operating in the presence or in the absence of diluents, and carrying out a portionwise addition, during the polymerization, of a portion of the organometallic compound of aluminum (or of the related hydride derivative), constituiting also one of catalytic components.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 24, 1986
Date of Patent: October 13, 1987
    Assignee: Enichem Elastomeri, S.p.A.
Inventors: Silvano Gordini, Antonio Carbonaro, Stanislao Spina
  • Patent number: 4072739
Abstract: The invention relates to the purification of homo- and copolymers of mono- and diolefines, as obtained from a solution polymerization in the presence of uranium catalysts, from the catalyst residues, and particularly to a process for the removal of the uranium from the hydrocarbon solution of the polymer, which solution is mixed with an aqueous solution of ammonium carbonate, the thus resulting aqueous phase being then separately treated for the recovery of the ammonium carbonate and of the uranium.
