  • Patent number: 6503577
Abstract: A method for thermally coating the cylinder barrels of a cylinder block of a combustion engine is disclosed. Air flows through the cylinder bore whose barrel is to be coated. This air flow is generated by means of extraction, whereby the air is extracted from the bottom of the cylinder bore through the crank case of the cylinder block. For extracting the air, a plurality of extraction collars are provided that are connected to an extraction fan and are moved from the bottom through the crankcase to the lower end of the cylinder bores. The pressure of the air flowing through extraction conduits to the extraction fan is measured and the value of the velocity of the air flow through the cylinder bore is calculated. An adjustment mechanism controls air chokes in the air conduits in response to the calculated flow velocity present in the cylinder bores.

  • Patent number: 6357386
Abstract: A plasma spraying assembly comprising a treatment chamber and a plasma spraying device located in the interior thereof is disclosed that further comprises an assembly for controlling the gas flow in the interior of the treatment chamber. In order to prevent a gas flow in the interior of the treatment chamber that whirls deposits to be created, a deflection device is provided that is located at least partially in the interior of the treatment chamber. Vertically below the treatment chamber, a collecting shaft is located. In the region between the treatment chamber and the collecting shaft, there is provided a basic element comprising baffle members, but leaving open a passage between the treatment chamber and the collecting shaft. In the interior of the collecting shaft, a deflection element is located having essentially conical shape and towering into the passage of the basic element. The collecting shaft is in operative connection with the suction side of a blower and with a vacuum pump.

  • Publication number: 20010022995
Abstract: The invention provides a method and an apparatus for thermally coating the cylinder barrels of a cylinder block of a combustion engine. During the coating operation, air flows through the cylinder bore whose barrel is to be coated with a flow velocity of between 7 m/s and 12 m/s. • Patent number: 6137078
Abstract: The nozzle is provided with a plurality of cooling channels running from an annular channel located in an inlet region of the nozzle through the nozzle in longitudinal direction up to an outlet region of the nozzle. The powder supply channels provided for the supply of coating material are led between the cooling channels. A nozzle support member adapted for receiving the nozzle is provided with cooling ducts that are hydraulically connected to the cooling channels of the nozzle and constitute therewith a nozzle cooling circulation system. The advantages of this design can be seen in the facts that the nozzle is homogeneously and efficiently cooled up to its outlet end and that the danger of building-up molten deposits within the nozzle is substantially avoided.

  • Patent number: 5582537
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for sand-blasting the inner walls of bores, tubes, pipes and the like, comprising a housing with a first tube member for feeding blasting material and a second tube member for feeding pressurized air. The second tube member is provided with a curved end portion, the orifice thereof being located beyond the outlet opening of the first tube member. The second tube member, together with its end portion, is rotatable around the central longitudinal axis of the first tube member. Thus, the stream of blasting material escaping from the outlet of the first tube member is deflected and accelerated under the influence of the stream of pressurized air escaping from the curved end portion of the second tube member. Due to the provision of such a touchless deflection, the wear of the apparatus can be substantially reduced.

  • Patent number: 5452854
Abstract: The plasma spray apparatus for the coating of the inner walls of bores and tubes essentially comprises a housing, a supply member, a plasma gun shaft member and a plasma gun head member. The plasma torch created in the head member escapes transversely with regard to the central longitudinal axis of the plasma spray apparatus. The supply member is rotatably received in the interior of the housing and is driven by an electric motor and a gear box. The supply member comprises a swiveling coupling member by means of which the plasma gun shaft member is connected to the shaft member. Thus, the rotatable shaft member can be radially deflected with reference to the axis of rotation. Thus, the head member fixed to the free end of the shaft member can be radially adjusted. With such a plasma spray apparatus, bores and tubes having greatly varying inner diameters can be reliably coated.

  • Patent number: 5273584
Abstract: The device for the dosed conveying of powder to a powder processing unit, particularly to a plasma spray device, comprises a volumetric dosing unit and a weighing unit which together allow a gravimetric powder dosing. The dosing unit includes: a rotatable dosing disc having a vertical axis of rotation; a drive unit mounted below said rotatable dosing disc; and powder feeding and withdrawal means mounted above said dosing disc. This dosing unit, having first and foremost a vertical extension, is fixed to a weighing platform which rests on a plurality of weighing cells. The drive unit is arranged below said weighing platform, in order to situate the center of gravity of said dosing unit at least approximately at the level of said weighing platform. This considerably reduces the liking of the dosing unit, as compared with a weighing platform arranged entirely above the dosing unit, thus allowing a gravimetric powder dosing with high accuracy and uniformity.

  • Patent number: 5250780
Abstract: The apparatus serves for treating workpieces by means of a plasma torch in a gaseous, preferably in an inert gaseous atmosphere. For this purpose, there is provided a gas-tight container and, in the interior of the container, a plasma gun as well as a cooling member for cooling the treated workpiece by a gaseous cooling medium stream. The cooling medium is a gas circulating in a closed circuit. Thus, the cooling gas can continuously used because heat is removed from the gas in a heat exchanger. A cooling operation can be realized in this way in temperature regions which are much higher than if liquefied gas is used.
