  • Patent number: 9835505
Abstract: A measurement system including: a radial external hole on a cover of a railway axle-box on the side of an edge of the cover facing towards a rolling bearing of the axle-box; a smaller axial hole made on the edge of the cover facing towards a ring of the bearing and opening in the radial hole; a cup-shaped body accommodated in the radial hole; a fork shaped spring integrally carried by a bottom wall of the cup-shaped body, projecting in front of the axial hole; a temperature probe slidingly accommodated within the axial hole and including a tubular element incorporating an electrical temperature sensor and an electric cable protruding from a first end of the tubular element accommodated within the cup-shaped body; and an abutting element removably coupled to the first end to cooperate with the spring, which pushes a second end of the probe out of the axial hole.

  • Patent number: 8757000
Abstract: The invention refers to a device for attachment to a rotating part (1) of a railway vehicle incorporating an arrangement, which is adapted, during movement of the railway vehicle, to detect and evaluate parameters related to the railway vehicle service and/or to an incipient fault state of wheel bearings (2) in the railway vehicle, and which device (12) is arranged to emit signals representative for the detected and evaluated parameters.

  • Patent number: 6860453
Abstract: A wheel (1) of a railway vehicle is associated with a vibration sensor (3) for supplying a vibration impulsive signal (V), indicative of the vibration of the wheel, to an electronic processing unit (E). This generates, based on the vibration signal (V), an impulsive surveillance signal (S) the instant value of which is increased in a manner correlated to the amplitude of each vibration impulse (I) and decreased in accordance with a predetermined law after each vibration impulse. The processing unit (E) compares the instant value of the surveillance signal (S) with a reference threshold value (T) and automatically generates an alarm signal (A) when the instant value of the surveillance signal (S) reaches or exceeds the reference threshold value (T).

  • Patent number: 6672681
Abstract: A railway axle hub unit of the type including an axle box housing (1) for supporting a bearing, is provided with a sensor body (3, 9) containing sensors (4, 5) for detecting vibration in the vertical direction and the horizontal axial direction. The sensor body is mounted onto a stationary support element (2, 1, 15) rigidly secured to the bearing, preferably an annular sealing insert. The sensors perform monitoring of the operation condition of the hub unit by generating and transmitting signals indicative of the detected level of vibration to an electronic processing unit mounted on board of the railway vehicle or the train. The processing unit is capable of signalling in real time an impending failure and/or a damaged condition associated with the monitored hub unit.

  • Publication number: 20030160133
Abstract: A motion sensor (3) is associated with a wheel (1) of a railway vehicle for generating a signal (M) indicative of the motion of the wheel along a vertical axis (x). A rotation sensor (6) provides a signal (S) indicative of the rotational speed of the wheel (1). The motion (M) and rotational speed (S) signals are received by an electronic processing unit (E) which correlates these signals using the speed signal (S) to divide the vertical motion signal (M) in subsequent time portions or frames, each corresponding to a complete rotation of the wheel. A mean of the subsequent time portions of the motion signal stored over a period of time is calculated to identify actual or incipient roundness defects of the wheel.
