Abstract: An angle of rotation sensor for determining a torque in a twistable shaft of a steering system has at least two magnetic scales, arranged concentrically about an axis of rotation, with a pole length of at least one of the scales, participating in the formation of the vernier, advantageously being modulated, so that a least possible number of regions of ambiguity result. Several rings are optionally disposed in such a manner, that the ambiguity regions of verniers formed do not mutually overlap.
