  • Patent number: 8068878
Abstract: A system, method, and base station antenna for improved coverage in a cellular mobile telephony network. Each cell in the network has an area defined by azimuth and range limits. In the system, a first cell and a second cell are essentially adjacent to each other in azimuth. A third cell has an azimuth limit that is essentially equal to the total azimuths of the first and second cells, and has a range coverage that is shorter than the ranges of the first or second cells. The base station antenna forms separate “conventional” beams for the first and second cells, and forms a “near cell” beam for the third cell.

  • Publication number: 20080200116
Abstract: The invention discloses a repeater antenna for use in telecommunications systems on the microwave range, intended to connect a first radio unit at a first site to a second radio unit at a second site (A). The repeater antenna has at least a first and a second antenna element and a feed network for said antenna elements, the antenna elements giving rise to a first and a second antenna beam. The first beam can be used to connect the repeater antenna to said first radio unit, and the second beam can be used for connecting the repeater antenna to said second radio unit. Also, said first and second antenna elements are arranged on a surface where the distance between the two antenna elements along the surface is longer than the shortest distance between the antenna elements.

  • Publication number: 20080167077
Abstract: The invention discloses a system (200) for cellular mobile telephony, comprising a base station antenna (500, 600, 700) and a plurality of cells (203, 310, 320, 330). Each cell has an area defined by an azimuth (?1, a2) and a range (R0 R?), and the first (310) and second (320) cell cover respective areas, said areas being defined by first (?1,) and second (?2) azimuths and first and second ranges (Ro) respectively. The first and second cells are essentially adjacent to each other in azimuth, and the system also comprises a third cell (203, 330) with an area coverage defined by a third azimuth and a third range (R?). The third azimuth is essentially the same as, and coinciding with, the total azimuths of the first and the second cell, but the third cell has a range coverage which is much smaller than the first or second range coverages.
