Abstract: Provided are kits and methods for antibiotics susceptibility testing. In alternative embodiments, the test and method are performed by using the agar dilution procedure. Provided are kits and methods for assessing the minimum inhibitory concentration (M.I.C.) of antibiotics belonging to various classes, such as for example penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems, aminoglycosides, quinolones, fosfomycin, lincosamides, macrolides, glycopeptides, tetracyclines, azoles and echinocnidines on plates comprising at least one detection assay vessel in form of an agarized well. Still more particularly, provided are kits for facilitating the carrying out of such method.

More specifically, a device is provided for standardizing the crossing and allowing a perfect angle of 90° between two graduated paper strips impregnated with a predefined concentration gradient of an antimicrobial agent, for evaluating their synergistic effect on the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) on a bacterial culture medium.

Abstract: An article for determining a minimum inhibitory concentration of antibiotics. The article has a strip of paper in which the strip of paper is permeable to air so as to prevent air bubbles from forming at a point of contact with a microbial culture medium. The strip of paper has a predetermined concentration gradient of an antibacterial agent graded on a scale of fifteen dilution units. The antibacterial agent on the strip of paper is releasable slowly from the strip of paper. The scale of fifteen dilution units can he expressed on a color scale and can be expressed in ?g/mL. The strip of paper is impregnated with the antibacterial agent.

Abstract: The present invention concerns the sector of chemical, clinical, bacteriological and immunological analyses and more specifically it concerns the use of a strip of impregnated paper in order to determine, in the simplest, most economical and most accurate way, the correct Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (M.I.C.) of antibiotic molecules to be administered to patients as claimed in patent No. EP 0 157 071.
