  • Patent number: 9316192
Abstract: In a gaseous-fuel-injector device for internal-combustion motor-vehicle engines, the valve body of the injector device has one or more auxiliary openings giving out onto an internal surface of the valve body in which the valve member of the injector device is slidably mounted. Said auxiliary openings are arranged in such a way as to enable the inflow of the gaseous fuel coming from the supply, not only into the inlet opening of the injector device, but also into the internal area of the valve body in which the valve member is slidably mounted, so as to obtain an effect of ventilation and flushing, by means of the flow of gaseous fuel, in an area where there tend to form deposits of the oily substances contained in the gaseous fuel.

  • Patent number: 7497199
Abstract: Described herein is a closed-loop electronic control system for controlling combustion in a diesel engine operating with highly premixed combustion, in which an injection system is designed to obtain at least two injections of fuel per engine cycle, the injections comprising at least one pilot injection and a subsequent main injection. The system is provided with sensors designed for measuring or calculating quantities characteristic of the process of fuel combustion, and a closed-loop control block, which provides a control of the modality of fuel injection based upon the measured or calculated value of the quantities by regulating at least one of the following parameters: the distance in time elapsing between the execution of the pilot injection and the main injection; and the amount of fuel injected by means of the pilot injection.

  • Patent number: 7278399
Abstract: A fuel-injection system (1, 1?, 1?, 1??) for an internal-combustion engine (2), of the type provided with: a tank (3) for collection of the fuel; compressor system (4) for drawing in the fuel from the tank (3) and making it available at high pressure to an storage volume (7); at least one injector (8, 8?, 8??) hydraulically connected to the storage volume (7) for taking in the fuel at a high pressure from the storage volume (7) and injecting it into a respective combustion chamber (12) of the engine (2); a fluid line (17) connecting the storage volume to the tank; and pressure-regulator means (19) in the storage volume (7) set along the fluid line (17); the pressure-regulator systems (19) are set hydraulically downstream of the storage volume (7) so as to enable a continuous flow of fuel through the storage volume (7) itself.

  • Publication number: 20050274352
Abstract: Described herein is a closed-loop electronic control system (1) for controlling combustion in a diesel engine operating with highly premixed combustion (PCCI), in which an injection system (14) is designed to obtain at least two injections of fuel per engine cycle, said injections comprising at least one pilot injection (P) and a subsequent main injection (M). The system is provided with sensors (5) designed for measuring or calculating quantities characteristic of the process of fuel combustion, and a closed-loop control block (12), which provides a control of the modality of fuel injection based upon the measured or calculated value of the quantities by regulating at least one of the following parameters: the distance in time (Tp-m) elapsing between the execution of the pilot injection (P) and the main injection (M); and the amount of fuel (Qp) injected by means of the pilot injection (P).

  • Patent number: 6668800
Abstract: The system has a high-pressure pump having a number of mechanical pumping elements for pumping high-pressure fuel to a common rail; and a number of injectors communicating with the rail and activated to inject a quantity of fuel sequentially into the corresponding cylinders of the engine. Each pumping element has a delivery at least equal to the maximum draw of each injector, and is activated in phase with at least one of the injectors to minimize the variations in fuel pressure in the rail. Each pumping element may be activated by a cam, which may even have a segmented profile to effect a portion of the travel of the respective pumping element in phase with a corresponding injector.

  • Patent number: 5956942
Abstract: An injection method applicable to engines featuring a Denox catalyst for reducing the nitric oxide content of exhaust gas. In addition to the main injection phase, the method presents a post-injection phase predominantly performed during the exhaust stroke of the engine, so that the diesel fuel injected does not contribute--or only to a very limited extent--towards combusion, but is supplied directly to the Denox catalyst to increase its efficiency. The method involves no alterations to the injection system, by virtue of post-injection being controlled and optimized by the central unit controlling injection as a whole.

  • Patent number: 5826425
Abstract: An automatic regeneration initiating method presenting, in addition to the main injection phase, an auxiliary post-injection phase, for injecting a given quantity of fuel directly into the cylinders during the expansion stroke when the temperature in the combustion chamber is still high enough for its combustion, so as to increase the temperature of the exhaust gas and initiate combustion of the filtered particulate. By appropriately regulating the amount of fuel injected and the timing of the post-injection phase, incomplete combustion products are formed for assisting combustion of the dry particulate and lowering its ignition temperature.
