  • Patent number: 11821304
Abstract: A complete telemetry system and methods for downhole operations. The telemetry system includes an instrumented near-bit sub located below the Mud Motor and connected to the drill bit as well as a conventional MWD tool located above the mud motor. Parameters such as inclination of the borehole, the natural gamma ray of the formations, the electrical resistivity of the formations, and a range of mechanical drilling performance parameters are measured. Electromagnetic telemetry signals representing these measurements are transmitted uphole to a receiver associated with the conventional MWD tool located above the motor, and transmitted by this tool to the surface via mud pulse signals. The system is particularly useful for accurate control over the drilling of extended reach and horizontally drilled wells.

  • Patent number: 10400575
Abstract: A spider for a downhole tool, comprises: an inner rim; an outer rim; and at least two spokes extending radially between and connected to the inner and outer rims. The spider can be selected from a group consisting of grounding spiders, landing spiders, and centralizers. The at least two spokes comprise a first spoke in a first row and a second spoke in a second row that is axially offset from the first row; the second spoke can be circumferentially offset from the first spoke. The second row can be at a drilling fluid inlet end of the spider, and the first row can be at a drilling fluid outlet end of the spider. Each row defines a transverse plane having a flow area that is sufficient for drilling fluid flowing through the spider to at least meet a minimum target flow rate under specified operating conditions.

  • Publication number: 20150346234
Abstract: A rotational speed measurement system may include a rotational speed measuring device for measuring a rotational speed of a motor or component thereof. The downhole rotational speed measuring device may include a magnet and a magnetic sensor. A telescoping unit may position the magnetic sensor into sensing proximity of the magnet. A method for measuring downhole rotational speed may include coupling a rotational speed measuring device to a measurement assembly and a motor. The rotational speed measuring device may include a magnet and a magnetic sensor. The position of the magnetic sensor, the magnet, or both, may be adjusted with a telescoping unit to place the magnetic sensor into sensing proximity of the magnet.
