Patent number: 7484598Abstract: The present invention presents a method and a system for the positioning of the elevator car and the door of the elevator in the condition monitoring system. In the method the accelerations of the elevator car and the door of the elevator are measured with sensors. By integrating the acceleration information two times in relation to time the position information is determined. When the condition monitoring system detects a fault, forecasts a malfunction occurring in the future or detects a significant change in the operation of the elevator or in the measuring signals related to the elevator, it is possible to attach to this information the location of the fault or event i.e. the position of the elevator or the position of a door of a certain floor level on the slide path. The position information can be synchronized to a separate reference point by means of a positioned switch by making an adjustment to the position information at the reference point.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2008Date of Patent: February 3, 2009Assignee: Kone CorporationInventors: Tapio Tyni, Pekka Perala, Nils-Robert Roschier, Simo Makimattila

Publication number: 20080185231Abstract: In the invention a method is presented for ensuring operating safety in an elevator system, an elevator system, and a safety device of an elevator system. The elevator system comprises at least an elevator car, elevator ropes, an elevator motor, a traction sheave and at least two holding brakes, which holding brakes are arranged to prevent movement of the elevator car when the elevator is stopped. According to the invention the first holding brake is engaged at the end of an elevator run, and the other holding brakes are engaged with a delay. When one holding brake is engaged, the state of motion of the elevator and any slipping of the brake is monitored. If the brake is detected as slipping, a procedure for preventing a hazardous situation is performed.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2008Publication date: August 7, 2008Applicant: KONE CORPORATIONInventors: Jari Osterman, Seppo Suur-Askola, Jarmo Myllynen, Simo Makimattila, Jukka Korpela, Joni Kiiski

Publication number: 20080041667Abstract: A counterweight and an elevator car are suspended on a set of hoisting ropes. The elevator comprises one or more rope pulleys provided with rope grooves, one of said pulleys being a traction sheave driven by a drive machine and moving the set of hoisting ropes. At least one of the rope pulleys is provided with a coating bonded to the rope pulley and containing the rope grooves, said coating having a thickness that, at the bottom of the rope groove, is substantially less than half the thickness of the rope running in the rope groove and a hardness less than about 100 shoreA and greater than about 60 shoreA. In a preferred solution, the traction sheave is a rope pulley like this.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2007Publication date: February 21, 2008Inventors: Esko Aulanko, Jorma Mustalahti, Pekka Rantanen, Simo Makimattila

Publication number: 20050126859Abstract: In an elevator, preferably one without machine room, a hoisting machine engages a set of hoisting ropes via a traction sheave, said set of hoisting ropes having a load-bearing part twisted from steel wires of circular and/or non-circular cross-section, and in which elevator there is diverting pulleys of which some is made larger than traction sheave. The weight of the hoisting machine of the elevator is at most about ? of the weight of the nominal load of the elevator.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2004Publication date: June 16, 2005Inventors: Esko Aulanko, Jorma Mustalahti, Pekka Rantanen, Simo Makimattila

Publication number: 20050060979Abstract: The invention relates to an elevator provided with a coated hoisting rope (9), in which elevator a hoisting machine engages a set of hoisting ropes by means of a traction sheave (5), said set of hoisting ropes comprising coated hoisting ropes (9) of substantially circular cross-section which have a load-bearing part twisted from strong steel wires (16). The cross-sectional area of the steel wires (16) of each hoisting rope is larger than about 0.015 mm2 and smaller than about 0.2 mm2, and the strength of the steel wires (16) is greater than about 2000 N/mm2. Moreover, the core of each hoisting rope (9) consisting of steel wires (16) is coated with a substantially thin sheath (17) softer than the core, forming the surface of the hoisting rope.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2004Publication date: March 24, 2005Inventors: Esko Aulanko, Jorma Mustalahti, Pekka Rantanen, Simo Makimattila

Patent number: 6868661Abstract: Elevator rope arrangement in which the elevator car and counterweight, travelling along guide rails in an elevator shaft, are supported by suspension ropes, which are attached to the top part of the elevator car and passed via at least one diverting pulley to the counterweight. Separate hoisting ropes are attached to the lower part of the elevator car and passed to lower part of the counterweight via at least one diverting pulley. The hoisting rope is a substantially thin rope made of synthetic fiber and having a sheath made of plastic material.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2002Date of Patent: March 22, 2005Assignee: KONE CorporationInventors: Esko Aulanko, Simo Mäkimattila
